I see no problem arising and I disagree that the FIA will turn down the Burkland Mile record, if they see fit to ratify the claim from the team and the steward at Bonneville.

In the classes there is no 'priority' of one distance over the other.

A record has to be claimed for the class (A- I - 11, I would excepct} and the distance attempted - so if the mile is one of the distances on the FIA application put forward by the Burklands then of course the speed will be a record at greater than 1%, subject to FIA ratification.

Their mile record speed is slower than the Al Teague kilo (which was timed and ratified by the appropraite US governing body I am sure) but does that matter?

What will not be official in the FIA is any claim to "A World Record" for the flying start mile or kilometre, as they are held by Andy Green at supersonmic speed (being regardless of category, group or class).

Corrected from the Class 10 (405 former record) to Class 11 (409.9 former record for the mile). Both engines were on.  Also, please check out the full story on our site tomorrow. Tom's a great interview, as is Betty!

I know that FIM there is a fee for the mile and there is a fee for the kilo you can pay for one or both... So it is possible the FIA is the same way, as money hungry as they are...

www.greatfallstribune.com now has a short story and one of Ray's photos up on the Burklands. More to come tomorrow on the site.

HA HA HA HA HA!

Photo Caption: "The 411 car owned by the Burkland family makes a run earlier this week at the Bonneville Salt Flats (Photo courtesy of Ray the Rat)"

Now that's funny! I hope it gets picked up by some big national papers and they all have to credit the picture to "Ray the Rat"

Yup.  That's what I asked him to do.  I appreciate his willingness to accommodate my insanity...uhhh...eccentricity.  Yeah.  That's it.  Eccentricity.  :)

Buckeye Bullet just made a down run with a course blistering speed of 115 mph in the mile and kilo.  Had to be pushed into the pits from the 2 mile mark.  However, that speed isn't much short of the record they're trying to break...whatever it is...electric barstool, maybe.  So they're doing a 1 hour turnaround thrash in hopes of getting it to run a bit faster and complete two runs, if nothing else.

Btw, I sent 2 more photos (posed, of the Burkland team) to the reporter.  Ya think I could qualify for "most photos published in a day by a rat?"  :)

If there is now an "International (absolute) record" in any of the categories, groups and classes then that is news to most people around the world.

Who in the FIA are stating that such things exist when they are not printed in Appendix D?

We have always paid for each and every record in the UK and in Europe - must be nice to have a governing body with a flat fee - all record claims included.  Ratification fee comes on top of paying to be allowed to attempt a record.

Well, you'd be a bit dirty if you'd been out here traipsin up and down these here salt flats.  I heard tell that Jon and Nancy had to go home to change their undies...so if it's good enough for them it's good enough for me.

Bwahahaha, a few years ago I was sending Ray an email which started: "Dear Rat:"
(because I can't type).  Later I was apologizing all over the place and Ray thought it was great . . . .

Not you know the "rat" story . . .

I have to admit, that was a first in my career, but the photog gets the name the photog wants.
