some pages before was a discussion about the Summers brothers record with the Goldenrod...

Yes - the record can be broken....you have only to build the right streamliner

Just to the - what someone called "arrogant" British - the Goldenrod run on a 13+ miles long course - Donald Campbell set his record on a 7 miles long course - his speed out of the four mile marker was 445 mph - to today the fastest speed ever driven with a wheel powered vehicle after 4 miles......Donald got the guts....

Not only this, when he set the record he crossed in the middle of the fourth mile a other course with grooves in which was 4 inch wide and 3 inch deep (from a earlier try)......would anybody at salt would do this.....except John Noonan......

If Donald had the right course he could go 475 - 500 mph.....but unfortunately he was also a hard headed guy and was not interest to come back to Bonneville with the car, where he had in 1960 a heavy accident. The reason is unknown.

Also Donald set the same year - 1964 - a water speed record - to today he is the only person who set a absolute Speed record on land and on water in the same year......just try to break this......

These pictures are from Rocky Robinson's site, at http://www.rocky-robinson.com/

Here are two pictures of Rocky, before and after today's record run:

Nice stuff, Dave.  That pretty much covers it.  I just wish I'd done the photos.  :)

OSU is on the way to the mountain end, Burkland is already there and the Top 1 pits have great burgers.

Ron Main told me that they were thru and very happy to have the record...he had USAC certificates in one hand and a burger in the other.  The certificates were in a plastic protector, just in case he gets confused as to which hand has what.

Jarlo...I meant heat under the hood...........

OK... Understood. It's what adds up to the total, and guys are icing intercoolers, plus whatever it takes. Running at 65 degrees has to be less heat load than 90.
I was trying to paint you a fairly complete picture.
I'm at home, trying to get some work done, just like 100 others.

Can anyone tell me if there is any video, TV, etc. of this event that will be available? I've seen video cameras in the back ground of many photo's and would assume that someone out there has some great footage.[qoute]

We heard from more than one source that Discovery channel was doing most of the taping. Possibly have ready for public to view by December or January.
I guess remember to check their website in a couple month's time.  There may be a chance of all The Disney owned outlets touting it.

Sure is a lot of people watching this special LSR session. I remember when Andy Green was running and I was logged in all day every day he was running. Boeing sure didn't know what I was doing but someone asked what I was so happy about the day he did it. Yeah it's a great sport to be able to look at results around the clock any where in the world. This is probably the most people ever on landracing.com at one time. Hurray for use and thanks to Jon A. & Jon W. for making it happen.

+1

Huge congrats to the Mr. Akatiff, Top 1, Rocky Robinson & Ack Attack crew, it was great to follow on this board. Thanks for the instant info, I've been nailed to my screen for days.

Better luck next year to Sam Wheeler & the EZ Hook streamliner. Should be fun to watch the big teams go after it next year.

Burkland just made a run, mile 404 mile, 403 km, exit speed 416 (??!!!), stopped on course.  At this time 12:30 mdt they have 45 minutes left for a turnaround.

Lousy photo, long focal length, major crop.

OSU next.

Rocky's normally large grin is even bigger and not likely to deminish any time soon! Congradulations to the Mike and crew for a historical day.

Bucky Bullet is prepared to launch at the mountain end.

Push truck getting 'em up to speed.

Running under its own power.

More as it happens.

This has been an awesome thread.  Thanks to SSS, Nancy, Jon, RtR, Deb and all the others who chime in with accurate info.

Hats off to Mike, Rocky and the ACK Team.

I am looking forward to the next time Sam, Bub7 and the NEW WORLD RECORD HOLDERS (pending ratification) Top 1 Oil ACK Team meet.  If salt isn't crunching under my feet when that happens, I hope to hear it from those who reported this event.

In all our jubilation lets also remember Lynn, Leo, Timbo and Cliff, those who recently suffered injury or paid the ultimate price living their dreams.

any one know what was happening back on June 26, 2007?

It had to do with the recent rains at bonneville in 07, 8 or 9 pages worth of info that lasted until Speedweek. Or it was the Motel/Hotel thread..
