FIM has just released the speeds:

Mile 358.8881
Km: 360.9130

This bumps the existing record by about 11 mph.

Bummer on Sam, but he has no regrets, he was the fastest over the years and will be back. All of the LSR racers have a lot to be proud of. Some of us can't be there but thanks to the wonderful internet and the people who volunteer their time to share it with us is great. Thanks to everyone of you.

I believe the record set by Chris Carr in Denis Manning's 7 was 350.8 mph

So the only folks left in the game are Buckeye Bullett, Burkland, and Speed Demon. Is this correct? Can't keep track of the players without a program.

Congrats to Ack and Rocky...How long is the run up to the timed mile these guys are taking?

Remember the max for BNI is 4 miles then the last timed area. If most of them are taking 5 or 6 a lot can go wrong in that extra mile or so especially with heat. Could be some of the problems that are creeping up......Keep going this fun even if we are not there to see it in person.........................JD

There is a total of 12 miles available; not all racers go clear to the end for southbound runs. Several started at 10.5.
Timing tower appeared to be near 6.  I think traps are in that area.
You are correct about little things going wrong. A half-mile less would have had Burkland into the highway berm.
The heat is a lot less than August Speed Week. Lots of folks in sweatshirts and parkas with bare legs until 9-10:00.
Highs earlier in the week were 75 to 83. Lows 58-63.(48 one morning)
Tolerable if you are under cover.

While we have a minute . . .

No doubt all the office rats and porch dawgs are VERY thankful for the coverage by the SSS team (I've seen Nancy out in saltwater up to her hoohoo folding tarps, etc) and Ray (don't forget he's hauling lots of gear as he runs around out there).  [1]   We should all buy a t-shirt and sport Ray to a hot dog!

Now the standard has been set - dare we expect or hope for this fine coverage at other events???????

Three liners left:

OSU's Buckeye Bullet 2...I Just heard a cheer from their pit.  I just checked while my satellite connection was down.  The driver has his suit on and they'll be running soon...or so the plan goes.

Speed Demon: Back in the pits with the skins off.  Don't know yet.

Burkland: Still in their pit.  They should be towing to the mountain end in about 30 minutes.  I just heard, "well, we're ready" come from their pit.  They just asked for permission to tow down to the mountain end.  Check out the boom camera in that shot.

Don't say "hot dog" too loud.  Jarlo might sorta kinda come unglued.  :)  I got a friendly lecture about eating a little better than I have been doing.  I will.

In any case, I'm havin a whole lotta fun out here.  Yeah, it's intense (and I expect it to be more so over the next coupla hours) but it beats the hell outta watchin the toob.

Can anyone tell me if there is any video, TV, etc. of this event that will be available? I've seen video cameras in the back ground of many photo's and would assume that someone out there has some great footage.

Also, I saw someone wearing a Burkland t-shirt...any idea how I can get my hands on one?
