Don't forget that we have two turbos on it which the exhaust housing are glowing ==> source of ignition?????

Diesel engines (as in tractor trailer) have exhaust gas temperatures between 350F-900F. I've seen a hot rodded Cummins run at 1475F without melting the tops of the pistons. I touched the exhaust (by accident) right off the turbo on a big Cat (working on a running engine) and it burned right to the bone in a micro second.

Edit: Pay no attention to the idiot at the laptop.  He didn't listen clearly.  NOT an early shutdown.  DUH!!!

Bummer!  The Demon shut off  in the middle of the run.  Chute deployed, slowing safely.  Don't know why yet.

We had on this run over 1900 F EGT's before first stage means right on the exhaust manifild, which the exhaust turbo housing will glow, which ignite the Evan ...

Speed Demon speeds (official, from the tower):

Entry   246.252   kilo   248.767   mile   248.731   exit  251.142

Is faster than the existing record, but he'll need to go faster on a return run to exceed the existing record by the minimum required 1%.

But no, I don't know the number - the existing record.  All I got from the tower is what I reported.

Ray's regular site is www.chevyasylum.com

O-KAY, a coupla things are under way.  First of all, I'd like to get a link to Ray The Rat's photo album so everyone can access his photos as easily as possible.  I'm getting asked over and over about where's this photo, where's that one -- so I'll try (or Debbie will, hint-hint) put a link to his stuff right on the front of landracing.com

Here's the link to the PB album:

The Burkland excitement:

Waitin for the Demon to head down the course,

It's gotta be faster than 251 if he needs more speed to exceed it by 1%.

It's not like SCTA.He doesn't have to qualify.  He can run below the record on one pass if he feels that he can add enough speed to make the average more than 1% above the exiting mark.

I amend my calculations. I used the exit speed and not the mile speed. Principle was correct, entered the wrong data.

Hind site always give the correct answer.

Here's a video that Bobby somebody put on YouTube of George Poteet and Ron Main's "Speed Demon" streamliner. It's shaky because it was shot without a tripod but it gives you an idea of the car:

Now comes the bad news - at least from my personal point of view.  Nancy and I have to leave the salt after the Speed Demon makes the return run (which it looks like it will do -- Mike Cook reports the car is in good condition).  The other teams remaining out here are being informed that they're welcome to parade to the north end of the track as soon as the Speed Demon makes that return run -- but we'll be on the way home, looking forward to seeing what Ray reports from this fine location.

Here's a bit of news -- Dan Warner was just on the CB reporting that the S/D is running that 181" N/A engine against the Honda F1 car record.  No, I still don't know the speed he's chasing.

I'll post now and continue in a few minutes.
