First of all, I don't know the precise reason that Burkland shut down early, save that indeed, the motors didn't sound happy so he shut off toprevent a wasted run and perhaps engine damage.  I'm on theother side of the course/pits from them now -- and the Ack bike is about to leave the line, so I can't go ask.

We haven't seen Sam's bike yet -- still waiting for an appearance.

Ack bike is being buttoned up right now -- will launch in a minute of two per the timing stand.

Winds are 0 to 4 mph right now (on the various parts of the course) -- Ack bike will run in a minnit.

Timing stand announces:  After Ack bike runs -- any second now -- they'll get to the pits and the Kuryakyn bike will then run -- two down runs in a row, then a pair of two-hour turn arounds running simultaneously, then two return runs in a row.

Ack bike is moving.  The run beings at 8.50AM.  Temp is about 55 F.

Slowing down, chute out

Ack bike is back in the pits.  The record they were chasing was about 350, and there's some smoke coming from the top/tail section of the bike.  I can't run over there to see the story -- Leo Hess and bike are about to leave the line, so we have tostay out of the course -- even here, almost 12 miles away.

Let's see - twelve miles 0 - 330 - 0 in five or six minutes...  Yeah, I'll stay out of the way.

Hess bike will start about a mile or two down course from the 12 (zero, read from the other end) and will aim for about a 250 mph run.  Engines running right now -- hasn't left the line yet.

While we're waiting, here's the USFRA safety net.  It's set up about 20 degrees right of the one mile (down at the pit end of the course), and is there in case a car/bike has slowing issues.  Aim for it, hit it -- and the chites that are in the PVC tubes on either side of the net will be deployed when the vehicle snags the net, slowing things down in a hurry.  Or so goes the theory.

Holy cow !  This is exciting , like play by play !     you guys dont have to worry about getting upstaged by the major networks in SLC, those clowns dont know anything but "stick and ball"

Ray the Rat says Nish has swallowed a valve.  Heavy thinking going on in the Nish pit.

Rocky got hit by a gust of wind, leaned the bike to miss the lights/sign and therefore shut down, but things are okay.  Smoke I mentioned (from the bike) was off the header-- nothing big deal.

Hess vehicle is running but not moving down the course.  Whoops, moving again after all!

For those that don't know Leo Hess held the record at El Mirage for many years at 218 mph. Took a long time to break it.
