Best way to preheat water in a water coolant tank.
« on: September 10, 2008, 09:36:26 PM »
I'm trying to figure out the best way to preheat my 19 gallon water tank, immersion heater, heat pads or a combination. Or a big propane burner with a big aluminum pan and pour the hot water into the tank once its ready.
The new motor in my car runs on methanol and would take forever to warm up the water ,I would like to be able to preheat the block/heads with hot water from the tank especially first thing in the morning when its cold out.

Any ideas appreciated

Hey 44  the car in your avatar looks cool?  You have any full size pics ?   What class do you run?

I have a flat black 1933 Ford Vicky Sedan run.

Don't preheat the water, it defeats the purpose of using a tank. Put a thermostat in the system, that way you only have to heat the water in the block. Put a heater on your oil pan or tank to speed engine warm up.

A freeze plug block heater is about $30 at Jegs or Summit.

I would run a heater hose from my push truck to the heater connections on my race block with cut offs on each end---could be hooked up in less than 5 min ---even with hose clamps!!!!!!!!!!!!!
