More than a jock strap for sure.   smiley

One of our #974 T shirts would look good on you.  You can purchase one at out pits.

Seriously, I wear Levis and a T shirt but many wear shorts and a loose fitting shirt.  White seems to be a good color.  I would stay away from anything black and tight fitting.  A big hat is important.

Have fun.

The big hat, sunglasses, natural fabrics (linen / cotton) and light colors, preferably white, covering as much as you are happy with.

Take a look at the starters - they wear long white trousers and long sleeved white shirts. At first I thought they were nuts, but there must be a method to the madness because they keep coming back and they stay out longer than almost anyone else!!

Another hint I picked up last year was to apply the sunscreen when you get dressed in the morning. Apparently it needs time to soak in. If you are wearing sandals or flip flops, don't forget to put sunscreen on the feet!

Have fun!!

I wear a cheap straw hat, or floppy boonie hat, a plain old white T shirt, and Knee length shorts. I also carry an old dress long sleeve white shirt I no longer care about to put over the top of my T shirt during the heat of the day. Let it hang loose and you will stay fairly cool even when in the direct sun.

A cheap spray bottle set on mist full of water is really refreshing on the face and to dampen the T shirt a bit when it gets really hot.

As mentioned lots of good sun screen -- get one of he "swim proof" brands that does not sweat off.
One thing I do to get even application of the sun screen is put a dab of common hand lotion on my hand then a dollup of the sun screen and rub it together then apply. The "thinning" by the hand lotion helps to spread a uniform coat and also moisturizes the skin a bit. I apply it several times a day this way so you have multiple light applications (much less likely to miss a spot that way).

Getting a bit of sun before you come out is also a good idea so you give the body a head start on the tanning reaction as a last line of protection.

Make sure you bring a couple sweat shirts.  Early in the morning it can get chilly.

Be sure to apply the sunscreen( SPF 50!!!) in places you normally wouldn't. UNDER your nose, ears, armpits, chin and especially (OUCH) shorts... especially if you wear short ones! Apply several times a day. I got a great hat at a garden store that has a very wide and long (in the back) brim... the under side of the brim is dark colored to keep reflections to a minimum. There is a vendor in the pits that sells some EXCELLENT sunglasses... don't spend the day without them. Don't forget to drink a ton of water/gatorade/ fluids, all day long.

You'll see some truly goofy-looking clothing out there, much of which is to protect the wearer from the sun.  Some is to garner strange and appraising stares from onlookers, but that's another story.  Anyway -- if you find something that works to give you comfort in the sun/heat -- don't be shy about wearing it.  Hey, Kenny Lyons, who suffered some eye damage a bunch of years back, wears what is basically a welding shield for the front 180 degrees of his head -- and a towel over the back half.  Russ O'Daly, the previous M/C tech chief, made up a bunch of big straw hats for us inspectors.  Painted them orange and lettered 'em up "M/C Tech".  Truly big and goofy -- but they work.

Don't laugh too much at what others are wearing -- they might have the right idea.

PS:  Nancy and I have been going to the tanning booths for a while now - to make sure we're ready for the first few days of blinding sun.  It's too late to start - but think about it for next time.

Me, goofy-looking?  Fortunately that's not a valid issue.

Todd
who is the goofy one?

Do not forget SPF block for your lips.  I believe I went through a whole stick of chap stick for SpeedWeek/ BUB.  Between the sun and it being so dry out there my lips really needed care.

Bill
P.S. SSS, thats a real nice bike you're standing next to.

I have been going out there since 1989. My dad has been
going out there since 1960.
It doesn't matter how many times you go out there, you
never get used to the heat or the sun.

Do Not Foget Sunglasses, Water, or Sun block!!!!!
These are must have items out there!!!!!
I usually wear shirts that I bought in the pit area and shorts.
But I apply the sunblock many times through the day.
I would buy at least three bottles of sun block to use.
