Stop by any time Duane...cold water is available during the day and cold beer is flowing after the racing! We will be with the San Diego Roadster club pits.

Lakster is done and ready to go. Just finished up the Danny Boy motor on the dyno about 2:00 pm today. Hopefully in the car tomorrow. Such is life.

I am ready to go so I went up yesterday and helped Richard. Ed, and Brian put the engine in the streamliner. As long as UPS/FedEX do as expected it looks good. Vince

Being ready to go means all of the support equipment as well. Make a list and check it off a you load. Have at least 2 spare tires for the trailer and check the ones on the ground as you travel. The desert roads are very hot and abrasive in some areas.
Every year we hear of some one hitting a critter.Be safe in your travels. smiley

I had FOUR (which is 100%) flat tires on the May El Mirage trip....... Two going and two coming back. All 4 had less than 2000 miles on them and were inflated properly....... The desert heat is just a tire-killer  embarassed

Especially at Whitehorse pass on Hwy 93. I almost hit a deer there last year and a couple of years ago, came around a corner only to be greeted by a pack of wild mustangs (the kind with hoofs)

On 9-27-08 we lost a great friend and fellow racer, he was the BEST, he helped anyone with anything at anytime.  His name is Dave Owen and he will be missed by all that knew him and I am glad to have met him.

Seeing him at Bonneville during 2008 Speedweek was the tops, Dave was in awe of the salt and as usual was there helping out anyone who asked..simply put we lost a great man who will be missed by all.

"Racing Noonan Back up the Hill I blew my Intercooler in half{I Lost all boost and egt's went through the roof} I was Lucky enough to have 2 fellow Racer's {i'm sorry i'm bad with names }Follow me back 350 mile's on the side of the road for 10 hour's to get back home to Vegas !"

This brings up a good point.  If you can, pair up.  Find a traveling friend who is also headed to the salt along your same route.  It helps to have support when you have those pesky travel problems.  Racers from east of the Rockies have time tested routes they travel for good reasons.  The suggestion to use Weber Canyon in Utah rather than I 80 is a good example.  There are a few wise first timers this year who have called for route information/suggestions.

Westbound I-80 through Parley's canyon bridge construction is done but they will be closing Eastbound Parley's Saturday at 7:00 P.M. and reopen it sometime Sunday evening. Weber canyon I-84 is probably still going to be a better route for anyone pulling a trailer. I-15 going through Farmington (North of Salt Lake, where the Lagoon amusement park is) has a bunch of construction too, be very careful through there as the lanes get pretty narrow.

Nancy -- 201.913 mph record on a production ZX15!

Hey, hey, hey!  We're here!  Nancy took this photo -- I think you'd rather have seen her, but this is the best I could do in traffic on I-80:

Crap -- I thought I turned that photo around.  Lemme go see if I can fix it.

  Anyway,

It's late afternon, the temp is about 90, and no, we didn't go out to the salt -- but we don't see lots and lots of residue on the vehgicles that were out there today, so that's good news.  The local folks are telling us about that storm last week - how it's a good thing we didn't race then 'cause the event would have been in deep water.

Speaking of the local folks, Mike Crawford, the guy that owns Car Quest here in Wendover, is on the City Commission and has put together a "racer appreciation picnic" for Thursday of race week.  It's going to coincide with the Volunteer appreciation banquet that SCTA/BNI hgolds for us every year, and now will be a bigger deal than usual.  Everyone is invited -- we just left his shop and he asked us to make sure you all are ready for burgers and chicken and stuff like that next Thursday (I think that's the 21st) about 5PM.

And we've also ben to Smith's grocery store to chat with the manager (Mike) about the food for Salt Talks -- and he assures us it'll be ready and waiting (of course we've got the pasties here in the room already).  We're really trying to get the racer community and the Wendover folks happy to be in each others' company this year -- so if you're at a store or something in town, don't be shy about telling the local folks you're glad to be here.

Enough for now.  Nancy's got all dressed up (means wearing less than usual, I'm happy to say) and we're going out to enjoy the fine cuisine of the Greater Beautiful Bendover area.  I'll take some photos and post 'em tomorrow.

Other Wendover information:  Diesel at the Pilot truckstop is $4.399 -- was $4.319 at the Flying J at Tooele/Exit 99, just west of SLC.  Gasoline is in the very low $4/gallon range.
