I am building my inter cooler tank out of aluminum and need to find some sort of thermal liner to fit inside the tank.  What are the rest of you using that have inter cooler tanks other than ice chests?  Is there some type of spray on that might work?  huh

We have put a reflective sheeting on the outside or nothing. We still had ice after a run but the problem is bigger if you run a lot of boost. We also used around a 15 gal. tank, what are you doing?

Thermal liner?? we just use an aluminum tank and let it sweat.  Ice stays good in there for a while.  Just put new ice in it every run.

The tank is 28x16x16, still working out the rails and how many holes I will need inside, but it will have about 25lbs of boost. The inter cooler is a tube shell type with 256 coper tubes inside it with 3 1/2" inlet and outlet.  I was going to run just the tank, when it dawned on me that I saw a car out on the salt with a shell inside the tank last year at speed week. Almost like a liner of some sort.

Anything between the ice and aluminum will cut down heat transfer. Low expansion foam could be used. Make a cavity between the outside shell and tubes. The low expansion foam won't distort anything.

I was thinking of expansion foam, but wasn't sure how it would hold up to water.  I don't want it to break down and clog my inter cooler.

I use Dow "Great Stuff" Window and Door sealant. For a door, not an intercooler. Their web site says it "Forms a durable, airtight and water-resistant bond." It is a closed-cell foam so the water isn't going to penetrate. Should work ok.
