Remarkable achievement Sum. When you are on the starting line waiting for the go signal you will truly understand what you have accomplished. Not many build the ENTIRE vehicle by themselves. Not like living in L.A. where a quick car ride will access any part or service. You must have racked up many $$ in rural delivery surcharges.  :-D  As has been said, the journey is often as important as the destination. Your build has reached the Great Salt Lake, the Flats are not far beyond. Well done.   Larry

Thanks Larry and the rural delivery charges hasn't been too much as so far it is mostly steel that I get a mile down the road from the house.  I checked all over the region thinking that the local guy in Blanding probably isn't the cheapest, but he is 10%-20% less expensive than any place withing 150 miles.  I did get this 'busa case from some Larry F. guy in Penn. that builds really fast bikes postage free  :-D.  I still haven't got to see him personally to thank him.  Do you know if he is going to be at Speed Week or BUB?

2230.... gsxr, busa, it dont matter.... the chain aint gonna like anything over 1600 lbs.... no really Sum... your frame is fixtured straight... Its time to get it off the platform so you can get it out in the sunlight and look under it... you need to find all those missing welds before they get burried under other stuff and you cant get to them to weld um....really sum, off the stand and on it wheels...love ya
kr

Good now I have a weight to keep it under, I'll be 2229 or less since I know that works even if it is hard on chains .  You did get my attention on chains before and there will be a chain cooler on it and I think I remember how yours works.  I did set it up to run 'busa sprockets once I found out that they would fit the 750 counter shaft so I will have the heavier chain.  I've also worried about the transmission with the weight since I know Rick blew up some of those, but I think you can get better aftermarket gears now.  I'll have to sneak over at SW and take some spy pictures of your chain cooler if I can ever find it with the body off.  I'd prefer to take the pictures with it right side up, so how about keeping it on all 4's this meet.

Kent it is going to be fun talking to you in a couple weeks, buy you dinner at the Mexican restaurant or I guess at the Casino,

Sum, I see Larry F. is off line so I will answer about him comeing to SW or BUB. He gave the team the choice of one Bonneville meet or five Maxton meets, due to the high cost of travel read FUEL, they couldnt do both. They chose Maxton. I was looking forward to meeting Larry, he has helped me a lot with my busa project. His team will be missed.

Just so you guys know I deleted that whole string of posts that I didn't think had much to do with my car build.   PM me if that is/was a problem.

Thanks,

Sum

Well if you would have seen them you would have deleted them.  It was just a pi**ing contest between two people that had nothing to do with this thread.  I post to "them" that I deleted their posts so that they would know who did it.  I got a response from one of them saying it was fine and no response from the other.

If you see a problem with that please PM me,

In my line of work I use double row sprockets on industrial drives. I have wondered why no one has made a 2X row hayabusa counter sprocket and 2 drive sprockets with a spacer and run 2 #50's (530) tandem.

Maybe a custom machined output shaft with an end support?

I cant see why you couldnt get a chain drive stronger than any part of the output or transmission this way.

The heat a single chain would develop would be dropped by dividing the frictional loads between two or more chains.

This is how I want to do my future project......anyone say this is a BAD idea?

Something like this but made for application.

I've wondered the same think, but I think an outboard bearing like you mentioned would be a good deal.  Maybe we can work on it over the winter,

I don't have pics handy, and maybe I don't know what the heck I'm talking about, but...
A few years ago we were at an AHDRA event and saw one of these mondo drag bikes with an enormous dual chain set up. I know we took pictures cause it was pretty wild! But, they weren't the only ones running that kind of setup. I have no idea on the ramifications or what is needed to support this but when I saw the chain thing mentioned that came to mind. I know they're not pulling the same speeds but there IS at least something out there being used that could be looked at for baseline research.

Let me know if you want to see the pics & I'll try to dig them up.

Of course we want to see the pictures, when you have time, as I don't think either one of is is doing this tomorrow.  There problems probably revolve mostly around HP where that can be a problem with us our main problem, at least I think, is vehicle weight and extreme chain speeds.  Two chains won't help with the latter, but maybe the former.

It would be great to hear from some of the racers now that are running fast with high HP, weight, and high chain speed.

Kent I don't think we are talking about using an industrial chain, but double sprockets with the chains that have been used before on the salt.

I take it from your post that you have tried it and it didn't work?

why go to the trouble, worrie, and headache if ya dont have too?...Sum you need to get real serious about your weight...its kinda like romero saying "ill just buy a bigger pair of pants cuz im too fat for my old ones" two chains cuz you didnt pay attention to target weight is like being too fat to push yourself away from the dinner table....ok, ok for all of you punk keyboard experts who are just dying to chime in "weight isnt a factor for us LSR guys" well it is if your using a devise designed for a 100hp 650lb vehicle....how much did you say it weighd right now sum? lets find out

I have no idea other than guessing, but I know I started with about a 500 lb. pile of steel and it is gone.  As I've also stated this car was not designed for the motor that is in it now.  If it weighs too much I guess that will be my problem.  Also if I was still a moderator I would have edited your post as the reference to another board member is uncalled for an not necessary to make your point.

Sum  I remember when I was first getting interested in this stuff I was talking to Ken Walkley. I seem to remember him telling me about his  streamliner having some sort of chain drive system that he did have problems with, but he did get it to work. I don't remember any details but he may be able to share his experience with you.  Hope this helps, Vince
