Two things for you Willie,

Back protectors. 

mandatory in most sanctioning bodies except the scta.
I can't run my drag bike without one and i can't make one lap at the roadcourse without one but i can run 250mph without one.

one piece leathers.

Many racers put their faith in a $4 Chinese zipper to stop their leathers from ending up around their ankles and up to their necks.


many people forget the Safety rules are MINIMUMS sometimes we forget that. I run one piece leathers and a small back protector just in case.

We use a flak Jacket when we race the sleds. Its a very thin vest that Mark wears under his leathers. This is not body armor like the motocross guys wear its much thinner and less bulkier than that. When we get the bike on the salt Mark will be wearing his flak Jac for sure.

i have two jackets that i wear for highway riding both are FXRG sold by HD one is leather one is gortex (waterproof)both have armor and a back protector which are made of some impact resistant material that fit in a pouch on the inside ---my race leathers have nothing like that but they will before the next race thanks jason

How many years had the HANS device been around by the time Earnhardt got killed?

A rider drag chute saved Dixon's life. It doesn't deploy until the rider is separating from the bike anyway.

i love this site---lets see what the options are---scenerio--you are going down the salt at around 200 mph you find yourself sepreated from your bike you know you are going to hit the ground in 1 second --option 1 -- hit the ground slide and tumble for what will be an eternity breaking both shoulder blades a collar bone and putting a rib through your lung and breaking an arm and a couple of fingers if you are lucky ---option 2 hit the ground with the chute open slide on your back and ass (thanks to the chute ) slide for a short distance  get up shake yourself off and take a bow to the crowd  --  lets see   sign franklin and I  up for option 2   ---willie  buchta

Jim Deist designed a rider chute about 30 years ago and offered it. I don't think there is a rule against using one on an open bike but the MC committee would have to make that decision. He also designed the first one for drag boats.

i have never seen one in the rule book---and i dont think it would matter about streamlining --the chute could be rigged to deploy only if you were seperated from your bike -willie buchta

let me make this clear--i was talking about having the chute attached to the rider not the bike----willie

Not ant rule that I am aware of, looking forward to seeing your chute pack at Bonneville Willie, hope you figure out how to ensure it never opens inadvertently as well as opens when you think you are about to need it.
