During wind tunnel testing, The Blue Flame's design was switched from swept stub wings to open struts for supporting the rear wheels because the tests were indicating an unstable pitching moment that was diagnosed as the effect of vortices coming off the nose acting on the stub wings. This same effect can be seen in the link above on a wind tunnel model of an F-18 fighter.
