Ready to Race this Saturday
« on: June 23, 2008, 10:12:56 PM »
Looks like after we get the numbers and lettering done and a few more shake down runs this Thursday, we will have the car ready for it's LSR debut at Maxton this Saturday.

Thanks for all the support, encouragment and info from the LSR community and especially this site.

Charles

Thanks Pete,

Can't wait to get a few runs this Saturday at the Monster Mile... It is supposed to be dry witha temp of 97
I am sure my color choice of "Satin Black"  is going to prove to be quite an oven while in line.

Thanks  again for the kind words.

The car looks great !
I think the number script really matches the car.
Go fast and be safe, there is always another pass. If something is not right get out of it(I mean the gas pedal not the car, that could be a rough landing )

EVO,

Thanks for noticing the style of numbers.  We will finish the Class Letters tonight.  I was going for the retro/old school look from around the 1950's..

I was lucky to get a 3 digit number to help finish off the look. (it would not have looked as good with a 4 digit number.)

Just got permission to make a few passes this Thursday at a local air strip...
only 3000 ft long though,,, I am just goinf to make a few 1/2 passes to make sure all drives well and shift to 3rd gear works,,, My shake down runs on the street helped with getting the feel for the brakes, suspension and steering, But I need to go a bit faster to get in 3rd gear.

Looks like Maxton is going to be HOT !!!!  (I could stand to loose a hundred pounds,  so maybe this weekend would be a good start... LOL )

Your lucky to have a place to test. Remember to wear all of your safety gear even while testing. Waiting to hear about your runs this week end.  :-D

I arrived in Maxton/Laurinburg an hour or two ago -- 98F and hazy.  It's since clouded up and the temp has dropped a bit, but still the forecast calls for really hot.  I'm got a pair of 10 x 10 awnings to set up for bike inspections -- instead of me inspecting by moving down the line it's going to be "Roll that bike up here into the shade if you want me to tech your bike".  Cool drinks, sun screen, a coupleof chairs to sit in so I don't get too dizzy from the heat -- let's see just how hot it is this weekend.

I'll be posting notes and reports -- stay tuned.

Well, Fred-- worse than just not running bikes - Nancy isn't even here with me.  She's at home -- her sister will be visiting from Juneau, Alaska -- this is the longest we've been apart since we got married.  I've never been to a race event without her.  Without bikes, sure, but without Nancy?

Anyway, no bikes.  We're finally pretty sure we'll have one or two at SpeedWeek (though not all three, darn it), and two or maybe all three at the September Maxton event.  Sooner or later you'll get to see them all.

But this weekend I'm just here to work and send reports to the site.  I've got the fancy new system that should let me post from the trackside -- we'll see how it works.

Regards --

SSS,  I just rolled the car in the trailer and finished with some gear,  It has been a long day. My shakedown today yielded good info and alerted me to a problem.  The brakes were sticking and robbing some power.

I got her on the lift and saw and resolved the problem.  Hope to be there by 1:00 tomorrow.

Will the Car Tech be roll up to a shaded area too?  It sounds like you have a great setup.. Start drinking fluids now...

See ya tomorrow

Cajun Kid, I wish you a lot of good luck this weekend on your maiden race. Be careful and half a lot of fun and remember the gas pedal goes both ways.

I'm going to write this for Charles, as he's back in his p it - and smiling from ear to ear.

I introduced myself, and he was busy meeting about a bunch of others of us here.  His build-up has been pretty danged popular on the site and a lot of us were glad to see his car (and him) in person.

So -- he's in the pits now because he passed tech on the first try.  Pretty good for someone building his first LSR.  We're all looking forward to seeing it make some runs tomorrow.

Speaking of runs -- it's breezy and warm with hazy bright skies right now.  Temps are in the mid-upper 80's, and it'd be great to make a run -- the wind is about 15 mph from the start line down the track.

Not too many racedrs -- maybe 40 bikes so far, and probably only a couple of dozen cars.  This is great from the inspector's point of view -- nobody waiting for tech (bikes, that is.  Lotsa cars in line).

That's it for now.  I've got the camera and will get some photos on here soon.  By the way, I'm sitting in the M/C inspection area as I write -- trying out the "go on-line any damn place" system..Seems to be working okay.

No thanks, Jon -- I now know how to use photobucket and got those links up without any trouble (other than Mark being sideways).

Thanks anyway, and best regards.  See you in a month and a half.
