North East LSR @ Loring AFB ME
« on: May 20, 2008, 01:38:20 PM »
I have heard tell of a LSR event at the old Loring Air Force Base in Maine this upcoming Sept 13th & 14th, to be run under ECTA rules for the meet, this being the first meet held at this location. I asked to be put on an email list with any further details, but for now, can anyone else share any details?

Thanks

     Don't have any definite details myself yet but do know there are some dedicated people still working on getting over the hurdles of getting a meet together at that facility.  In what area are you located ?

Any chance this is going to happen?  How long is the run and shut down sections?

     Last I HEARD;

                        Doesn't look too good for this year, lot of hoops and hurdles to overcome yet as well as the usual time consuming hard work.  Dedicated people still working on all the issues to get things together for  meets to happen.

                        Could be as much as 12,000 to 14,000' total usable space on the runway depending on how the access, staging, and shutdown / turnoffs could be configured.

     Great potential but still a lot to overcome before the lights can be tripped.

      Wish I had more time and energy to be able to pitch in towards the effort but right now am already over committed on too many "personal life" fronts to get as involved as I would like to.

      If any worthwhile, solid, and substantiated information comes my way I will do my best to assure it gets passed along.

     Newest info is that it is off for this year, plans are in the works for the first meet to be held first weekend in Aug 2009.  Any more substantiated information comes my way before I see it here I will post it.

     LOT of potential if everything can be worked out.  Google or MapQuest Loring AFB for Pix of the runway and check out http://wwwloring.org/Ida home.asp for specifics on the site.

     Just tried checking the link I posted, couldn't get it to work.  Will see if I can find and post one that works, might take awhile.  Sorry for any troubles.

Ed:

If you put the dot after www you get to the website. If you drop the Ida you get to a home page with an aviation option. I didn't have time to look at it any further.

I'm going to set up a forum section for the Loring AFB event -- maybe tonight, when I get home.  I'll do some other site maintenance, too, but that's for another topic.  Also - please note that we're likely going to take the site down overnight this weekend to do some work on it.  Plan on keeping yourselves busy with other projects from suppertime Saturday through brunch on Sunday -- in case it takes that long.
