Newbie warm-up question?
« on: April 08, 2004, 11:42:00 PM »
Hi all,

What are the pre-run warm-up procedures you all use?
Are there rules governing this, certain etiquette,
or is it common sense depending on what your vehicle
 requires?

I've roadraced motorcycles where you get a warm-up
lap or two, and would be interested in hearing
specifics about your ride, no matter what the
 number of wheels!  :)

 Thanks, Dave in Portland, OR

Dave
We no longer have a warm up area at Bonneville. The lack of personnel and to supervise it and insurance restrictions no longer allow it. With the large number of entries at around 400 each year and having two courses it cannot be done.
At El Mirage the same rule applies. However we have a start up loop for push starts that allows the cars to take avantage of the full 1.3 mile course.

Warm up is normally done in the pits and sometimes done in the staging lanes. This doesn't include wheel(rear-trans). This will be done in the pits with a driver on board on stands not jacks.  No vehicle will be running without a driver/rider on board. No entered race vehicle will be driven in the pits under any circumstanses. Record run vehicles will be warmed from the time you can get to it from the end of the road until 0700 when all shall be out of the immpound area.. Most cars have oil and water heaters built in. Impounds can be hectic for some. Good Luck, PS if I was explicit enough Motorcyle race vehicles are under the same rules as cars.
