Need help spark plug wires??
« on: May 03, 2008, 07:56:49 PM »
I have made my own plugs in the past, but for some reason I do not have a clue how to finish these ends so please help!!!

I bought these wires from Dyna and either lost the instructions or didn't get any. Both ends of the wire are for the spark plugs, you just cut them to length and make the coil end, I am using Dyna coils.

Here is what comes with the plugs. I am assuming the silver threaded caps are for the ends of the plugs. The boot is self explanatory and the gold crimp part is where I am lost.

Here is how I think it goes and needs crimped. These are 7mm suppression cables and I am not sure what to do with the center conductor?? Does it go into the hole, do I crimp something to it??

Please help???

Ok, I think I got it figured out....strip the outer jacket back and expose the graphite center and then fold it back on itself and crimp.

Sound correct?

You got it, but it is best to bend those tabs over to 90 deg. with needle nose pliers back in the part that is going to crimp in.  Do you have one of the crimp blocks to use in the vise?

Let me see if I can take a picture of what I'm talking about,

Do you have a little dielectric grease to ease putting the boot on?

Belden #7504 Pliers make these crimps the best I have ever seen. I have had a pair for many years. They also crimp the 90* ends.

If you can't race it or take it to bed - it ain't worth having.

Sumner I have a pair of pliers that I bought from Dyna for crimping.

I did everything pretty much to your instructions. I did not bend the 90's like you have shown and I assume that this gives a better crimp. Also there may have been one wire I did that did not get the small gap between the wire and conductor as you fold it back.

I think I will look at them again and double check everything.

I should be able to get the terminals at any auto parts store? Incase I want to re-do one.
