Chicken, Checkered Flags, and a Funeral
« on: April 01, 2008, 01:27:49 AM »
Al Copeland, founder of Popeyes fried chicken passed away.
He had a reputation for livin' large, and the jazz funeral in New Orleans was no different.

From NOLA.com:
Nine cars, eight motorcycles, a sport-utility vehicle and a dune buggy were parked in a semicircle. A motorcycle was at the gate, and Copeland's outsize speedboat, with tongues of flame on each side, was nearby at the Metairie Cemetary. Copeland's white Rolls-Royce and Bentley were parked on St. Charles Avenue.

At New Orleans funerals, jazz bands always end with something upbeat.

This time, the selection was "Love That Chicken from Popeyes."

Well, it used to be Los Angeles . . . 50 miles north of Fresno now.
Just remember . . . It isn't life or death.
It's bigger than life or death! It's RACING.

I worked accross the street from that cemetary once. Big, spooky place with all those headstones you see in the movies. I'm glad I was there in the daylight and not at night.
