Turbodiesel Car Classification
« on: March 24, 2008, 03:04:10 PM »
Hello, newbie here with a question about classifying a production turbodiesel powered car.  (something like a VW Jetta TDI or a Mercedes 190D 2.5Turbo, E300D, etc).  Do either of these cars qualify as Production or Production Supercharged since they are diesels?  Or do all diesel powered automobiles get thrown into the "fuel" classes?

If they must be classified as "blown fuel", even though they are relatively common production vehicles, I can see that they would stand virtually no chance against a record set by a supercharged methanol burning car.

Has there ever been any talk about a separate category specifically for diesel cars?  I know there are diesel truck categories, but can find nothing about cars.

Thanks for any input,

Your turbo diesel car would run heads up with a gasoline car in the same class. Production supercharged, Blown Gas Coupe, etc.
