08 Rule Book Arrived but now my class is gone ?
« on: February 29, 2008, 08:45:46 PM »
I hope I just missed the part I need.  The 07 book said in classic category cars from 1926 to 1949 may compete with fenders removed?  In he 08 book I can not find that wording..going back to shop to read the darn 08 book again.

My 33 Ford Vicky (sedan) is ready for paint now and I don't have any fenders and never planned on getting any!  Will I be ok in CGALT ?  whomever knows please let me know,,

I'm not sure on the car classes Charles, you can call the race director and get the answer given though... or if you like I'll be glad to help you find out why it's gone, not necessarily why it was decided that it should be gone though.

If anyone has the same question on the retired mc classes, feel free to ask and I will help with both of those why answers. I'm not taking blame or credit for the disappearing class tricks, or the class from a hat tricks... but I will help anyone that requests it a better understanding of the 4 W's(Which ones, When, Where and Why) as best I can(and a possible solution if it's something that affected you or your team).

After reading the 08 rule book again for the thord time,  The class my car is being built for seems to still be there but one very important  sentance is missing.

Classic Category
2007 rule book page 41 second paragraph.
"vehicles within the year range 1928 to 1949 using a non-vintage engine such as a chevrolet or ford ohv v8 may compete with fenders removed"

The last 5 words "may compete with fenders removed"  is nowhere to be found on the 2008 book... This is very important to me to run the car I build for  CGALT.

The 1933 Vicky I am building has no fenders as it is a vintage era "hi boy" ..
I am running a Chevy OHV motor  (small block, very small.. lol).

I am hoping the run no fenders is still ok?

Thanks

I sure can't find that on page 41.

I believe (believe, the key word) that that still applies to Altereds.

But the E/Classic Gas Altered record is over 200 -- and you've already (somewhere) admitted that the Vicky can't do it, so don't sweat meeting class requirements if you're never gonna see Impounds any way.

By the way, don't bother asking me how to get there -- I've lost my way.

Stan,

I am building the cage and other safety requirements to the 200+ requirements.

Now for Maxton the current  E/CGALT  record is around 113mph.. FTF racing entry owned and driven by David Pike,, (he is a very nice guy)  Not to be arrogant,, but I  "think I will break it"

For B'Ville the record is 201.??  .. so yes I see your point..

To be honest,,, at Maxton I am not sure How fast I want to go,  but if the car handles the bumps and stops well,,, I am sure I have more than enough to rock and roll...  as to running on the salt,,, I have no clue how fast it will go,,, because I do not know how the areo on my bodystyle will do over 150mph,,,

I just want to make sure I can run with no fenders as the 07 book said.

Thanks for your comments...

The project is behind schedule now due to parts on back order, but looks like Maxton in May is a Go...

I'd guess that you're talking about the 2008 ECTA rule book and not the SCTA rule book?

Mike that would be correct... I think Stn did not see this post was in the ECTA Rules Question forum??

I do post in both rooms,, I do however plan on going to play in the salt so Stan is 100% on target...

My first trip will be in the fall to the USFRA   and hope to do the 130 and 150 clubs... (yes my car will be street legal with tags and insurance)

It may be a bit radical for the street and expensive runnning  110 race gas,, but it sure will be fun to thump on into a few cruise is a year !!!

Charles -
The effort was made to make the ECTA rules more closely follow SCTA, as the original goal for the track was to help folks prepare for Bonneville.  So maybe that's what SCTA requires, but I'm guessing.  Keith will fill in the blanks.

And welcome to the E/CGALT fold.  David is, as you said, one heck of a great guy.  I was the first to run the class in my Camaro (250" six) so I had the record for a while.  I will be back this year with what I think is more power.  So hopefully I can rent the record in May until you come out with a bigger gun!  BTW - David did it with just 215 cubes in an aluminum Buick.

Have fun
