Streamliner layout question
«
on:

Is there a prefered driver location in a `liner ? I prefer to have mechanical failure in an engine/driveline take place behind me, yet I see Marlo`s car being built w/ cockpit at the rear. Seems like being far aft you would feel and see any variation from course sooner. But then, you`ll see fire and flying parts sooner too. Thoughts?? Jerry

The two liners I built had the engine behind me. I guess there is an argument both ways but I like all the potential problems to not be in my face.
Both cars have been record setters but so have some front engine cars.
Go with what you are comfortable with. If done correctly, both work well.

Having been in this sport for many years and on the emergency team I have seen the end results of blow ups and fires. The one area that needs a lot of thought and design is the fire wall and side panels. Sealing and being sure the panels don't flex and let in fire. This is very important regardless where the engine and driver is located. Fresh air breathing for the driver is also critical as is a full belly pan with draines or louvers in case of any liqueds sloshing around in it. These are lessons learned the hard way. Don't ever be afraid to ask as there is tons of help on this web site. Good luck on what ever you decide.

Glen,
As usual, good advice from you. I'm putting the panels on my lakester around the fire wall right now and will put extra Dzus's in that area. The air helmet intake is close to that fire wall seam in the next panel so it is very important in this case. It is a rear engine car but there is no guarantee's that it won't ever be going backwards and on fire.
Thanks, Harvey
