Flex Plate rating............
« on: February 08, 2008, 11:40:12 PM »
Does the flex plate with an automatic have to be SFI approved?  I see where a flywheel does and I see where an auto  has to have a shield, but can't find anything about the flex plate.

Thanks,

Sum

  Sum,

Can't see where a flywheel has to be SFI approved. Flywheel shield needs one if after market. If none is available for the application a fabricated ( 1/4 steel) can be SCTA approved.

  Your project is looking good!

SFI ratimg for flex plates is for the most part related ro use in dragracing and the sudden shock from a start is where the most failures occur.
SFI approved flex plate manufacture is limited to very few vehicles and they are not available for many types that run LSR,  as explosion proof bell housings are not either.

There is a bolt on steel shield that fastes to the top 5 tranny bolts to protect from flex plate flying in cabin and also a balistic blanket.  do we need both?

Cajun Kid,

Sent you a PM about the teardown thread.  Same advice on this as on the cage question.

Hope to see you in April,

Thanks and I think Hooley said he might have a blanket, but you guys hold off a little while.  I hope to have the parts for my new motor back from the machinist the end of this week or next and when I put the new motor in I can check for clearance and see if that stuff is going to fit, especially when I later put in the 4L80E I've had rebuilt.  I talked to some of the tech guys at El Mirage and I might just have to plate that area with 1/4 inch plate to make everything fit.

I'll be talking to you and if I need it I could get it on my way to Maxton in May.  I was planning on seeing you then anyway,

Sum

BTW the sun is out here and getting warmer, heard you guys got an ice strom again ...............  Blanding looking better??
