Shockwave on History Channel
« on: December 21, 2007, 09:56:12 PM »
I just watched a show on the History Channel called Shockwave. A part of the show today was a small 5-10 minute part featuring Ron Cook and his two crashes within two weeks of each other. I believe the second crash was at El Mirage in 98' and was a pretty bad get off at around 200 mph.

Curious if any of you were there then and if any rules changes came about because of these crashes.

It was a pretty nasty get off and the bike just looked like a skeleton of a bike when they showed it after it stopped tumbling. I think he broke 9 bones and had 3rd degree burns.

That is as close to the correct name as you can expect from a "hand me down" flim clip that is designed to bring the target audience to the "edge of wetness."
The show must go on.

Both accidents happened in front of me. I was the timer and the bike went into a speed wobble and pitched Ron off. His boot got caught the first time and drug him a long way. This was at Muroc. The bike was repaired and two weeks later it had a repeat wobble at El Mirage and this time the get off was much worse. He survived out of pure luck. It was a long recovery and the end of his riding days. It was an ugly thing to see. That's all I have to say.
