Hotels in Bendover
« on: November 30, 2007, 12:06:11 PM »
Is their a specific hotel most people stay in during BUB? Preferably one that is uhh, not out of the budget of the typical under-funded privateer team. :O How far in advance should we book; we will probably need 3 - 4 rooms.

Thanks, Ken

In past years the Nugget has been "the BUB
Hotel"....................................................................

First of all my caveat:  Nancy and I don't go to the Bub's event.  But -- I know that in the past Bub's has had an arrangement with one of the casino/lodging facilities to provide a decent room at pretty low cost.  Maybe try the Bub's website (there's a link on the home page of landracing.com) to see if said casino is listed.

Other than that -- there's a Motel 6, which isn't all that bad, and a Super 8, a handful of the more-expensive chain motels, four or five casinos (including the lowest cost one, the Red Garter), and a few independents.  I don't think there's any one that's THE place where racers congregate other than maybe the one that's in cahoots with Bub.

How far in advance can also be written as "How far in advance will they let us reserve?"  That is, for SpeedWeek there's usually an agreement that no reservations will be accepted before the first of the year, or some date around then.  For the record -- when that's the case it seems that if you wait even half-a-day on the appointed day to make your call -- the town is already sold out.  As I remember this situation has been changed for SpeedWeek '08 -- a change in the date of the event, and a change in some of the policies of the casino/hotels.  Do your own due diligence, and we'll see you on the Salt.

..............Other than that -- there's a Motel 6, which isn't all that bad, and a Super 8, a handful of the more-expensive chain motels, four or five casinos (including the lowest cost one, the Red Garter), and a few independents...........................

I called Motel 6 the 1st of Sept. to get a room for Wed. through Sat. for World Finals.  They quoted me a total price of $180 for the 4 nights.  I used my credit card and received a confirmation number.  A week or so later a friend tried to book a room and they quoted him a much higher price.  Now they realized there was a race event that week.  He told them of my price and they told him that when I got there my price would be higher.  I called them a couple days before World Finals to make sure I still had a room and at the price I had been quoted.  They told me that now the price was $270 even though I had a confirmation number.  I argued with them and decided to take the higher price.  I asked them to assure me that when I showed up that the new $270 price would be honored.  They said it would.  I got there and went to check in and was then told it would be $320 something.  I argued again to no avail.  I said I'll stay tonight at the $34.95 that was posted on the street sign and told them to cancel the rest of the nights.  The next day I checked into Red Garter for about $25 a night and $50 for the friday/sat. nights.  Nice room just not as convenient to get to.

I finally called Motel 6 corporate yesterday and complained.  The woman was very nice and told me she would lodge a complaint and no they should not of changed the price once I had a confirmation number and that Wendover Motel 6 would be hearing from them.  She is suppose to get back to me in the next 12 days to let me know the outcome.

I am now very leery of quoted prices in Wendover even if I have a confirmation number.  The woman said that if it happened again to take the room and call the corporate number right away.

c ya,

Sum

Last year I heard I could reserve rooms at the Nugget in September for 07. I called and yes indeed I was able to reserve two rooms and they honored it when I got there for Speedweek. The rate was 79 a night and 130 or something for Friday and Saturday. A bargain from what I hear others paid elsewhere. I phoned the Nugget two weeks ago thinking I could do it again. WRONG!!! They told me they were booked up for August when I gave them the dates for 08. I tried the other big Hotels and was told no reservations until January. Shades of  the past room problems seem to be here again. I had hoped that BNI had worked things out with the large chain and we would all get a break. Guess we have to wait and see.
