Question about running "naked" at BUB
« on: August 26, 2007, 11:53:32 PM »
When you have run "naked" under AMA rules, did you do anything to protect your instrument cluster wiring and hoses on your bike? On my Hayabusa, that area has a lot of dangling wires, terminal blocks and vacuum hoses. 200 mph wind would hurt them for sure. I was thinking about putting a metal cover in front, but not sure if that would be interpreted as "streamlining ahead of the rider" which is not allowed. If it is not streamlined would that be OK? What have others done, if anything?

Thanks,

The Z1-R was one of the first bikes to come stock with a fairing.
It was the little steering mounted box that was no more than a styling exercise, but none the less as produced from Kawasaki.
The AMA decided in their infinite wisdom that because it was a fairing, it would not be allowed in production in spite of it's origin.
So we took it off, the bike went faster and handled better.
More wisdom among the riders, caused the AMA to not be invited back to Speedweek.
Both systems have now deteriorated again, proving that ignorance is sometimes bliss.

So are you all saying that fairings are not legal in the production class at Bub? :?

Subsequent wisdom within AMA, based on the evolution of the MC, and led by SCTA caused the rules to be changed for this current group and if it was stock, it is required.

Yes it is quite interesting talking with Delvene Manning and *Sue Mason at AMA that both deny the AMA ever administered or kept Bonneville records .
She even denied the publication of them in an SCTA book when AMA was in charge of the bike entries.
To quote a former AMA / FIM VP, "She is just afraid for her little job"

*I added Sue that was left out from a typo

The AMA rules and rulers that act on the wishes of the promoter was not certified to establish membership in the Bonneville 200 club.

Jack, when you asked Sue and Delvenne about the "old" AMA  Bonneville Records.....that was in 2003..........they are both much wiser and better informed now...............Hell, when Earl Flanders was taking care of the bikes for the SCTA. and and noting down the records.........Delvenne was not even born yet in the Land Of OZ.

Can you get into to 200 club by setting a record at BUB, FIM or AMA or both?
Scott can you explain your previous post where you stated that a stock Hayabusa tail might not meet "naked" requirements, seems vague in the rule book to me. Also the way I read the book is that on a modified bike the seat height cannot be lower than an imaginary line between drawn between the tops of the rims. Am I missing something? You have seen the bike ( blue turbo Suzuki 1000 at Speedweek) any other observations?
Thanks
Nathan

I'm still waiting on an answer from Delvene, but, rule 4 h says, any bike factory equipped with windscreen, fairing, seat and side covers must compete with them. This is regards to the production class. But, I'm still waiting on a ruling so to speak... :?
