M/C Fuel Shut Off
« on: June 26, 2007, 06:07:05 PM »
What fuel shut-offs are acceptable in M/C Fuel classes? I am not using a pump, do not want to use 12 VDC solenoid, and do not want to spend the big$ on a pingle remote unit.

Thanks! : : :? :? :?

A number of Automotive Racing equipment suppliers such as Jegs can supply a large volume, lever operated valve that can be linked with a suitable cable to the handle bars and operated with a shortened clutch lever.
You may design it to require hand operation at the valve to open and a pull cable from the bars to close.

Because my bike has 2 petcocks, I wasn't wild about the Pingle option either. My main sponsor, Mike Rich Motorsports, came up with the brilliant idea of using a Mikuni vacuum fuel pump from a snowmobile. I checked with SCTA and they will allow it. I'm in the process of plumbing it all up now, hopefully it will work as planned.

Hey Ton
if you are using the vacuum pump as the fuel valve, you will need to use flame covering on the lines from the tank to the pump

I bought a choke knob & cable from Honda ($20), for a quad, & mounted it to the handlebar parallel to and below the grip. I ran the end through a hole I drilled in the petcock handle. Pull the knob & the fuel goes off. The rules don't require you to be able to turn the fuel on with the knob. A quad throttle lever would work also.

Come on Kent, let him have a few secrets from you.
Actually, Pingle has a very trick, polished tie wrap anchor for $80, delivered to your door at the home.
I will deliver a tie wrap and spares for just the cost of lunch.  LOL

I drilled a small hole in the handle, just big enough for the cable & end to fit through. I then got a small piece of round bar & drilled the same size hole through it. I cross drilled the hole & tapped it, so a set screw will keep the end from slipping though. That also allows you to easily remove it, as well as adjusting the length a bit.

7.B2.5 Fuel Shutoff

Fuel motorcycles must have a fuel shutoff operable without moving the hands from the handlebar grips.
