Here comes the note you knew was coming - a call for volunteers for the June race. It's really helpful to know that we have all of the stations covered, and that we can provide relief for all who are working (lunch, toilet, watch some racing, etc). So, if you can help, please let us know, either thru Email or with a phone call. My contact info is on the website, or you can just respond to this Email. And it's not just for me - Tonya and I were both worried at the May meet, as we didn't know if we had all positions covered. Of course, it worked out just fine, but it's a lot more comfortable to know ahead of time.
Thanks for your help Dan

Dan, meet Kent Riches. He's from San Diego -- although is rumored to know that the east part of the US does exist, from personal past experience. That said, forgive him for not having fresh in mind that there ARE race venues in locations where English is the predominant language (even if spoken with a southern twang).
Kent, meet Dan Stokes. He's the volunteer coordinator for ECTA. He didn't specifically so state, though, so your confusion is understandable...even if the mention of "Tonya" might have been a hint that you could have explored.
See you next weekend, ECTA folks.

Kent was out in the sun a lot at El Mirage last week end. He does not own a calendar so someone has to tell him when the California meet is on. Anything east of Bonneville is a challenge for him. Good to see you again Kent, I gave Rick the release agent. Glen

Kent - Don't let them get to you! This posting WAS in the ECTA section, however.
We'd be PLEASED to have you come on out, however. Just go to the California border, turn East, and keep on going. We have a great time at Maxton, and we even get some racing done - like a run about every 70 seconds or so.
Have Fun Dan

The conditions set down by the Judge specifically prohibit Kent's travel beyond a set limit without an escort. I got my turn over way early.

I forgot to mention - if you get to the Cali border and your feet get wet, taste the water. If it's salty, turn around and go the other way. Hope that's helpful.
But all kidding aside - we'd love to have some of you California guys out here. I know it's a bit of a tow, but hey - Thacker and Shine made it (at least, the roadster did). We'll show you a good time, but we don't offer mirages, for better of worse.
Later Dan

Dan,
After running at Maxton last year I was amazed at how good the course is and how easy it was to get to it unlike, Bonneville, El Mirage or Australia with regards to having to drive through miles and miles of dirt or salt.
Also the track at Maxton was the easiest to get in to the 200 club at so far, I know Texas is even easier since no real records are kept other than the track top speed record.
Again thank you to all of the Maxton folks and volunteers that made my Maxton trip special.
John

Hi John - Glad you enjoyed Maxton. I think it's the best track/people in the world. Made me give up drag racing completely! BTW - we DO have 5 meets a year, and the roads to the West are still open (for the most part), so you can come on back whenever you want. We'll be just as welcoming for future races, but you can expect more bulls#!t as we get to know you better. At first, we're SO polite.
Hope to see you soon Dan

Glen, you are wrong! Kent does own a calendar. What do you think he times his bike with?

Well, it used to be Los Angeles . . . 50 miles north of Fresno now. Just remember . . . It isn't life or death. It's bigger than life or death! It's RACING.

didn't know he passed spelling and math. We used them for gaskets and shims in the old days. The only dates on my calendar say everyday is Saturday or race day. Being retired it don't matter.
