speed rated tires
« on: May 02, 2007, 10:42:58 PM »
Will I need speed rated tires to run in the MPS/G 50/2 class ? I do not expect to go over 65 mph.

If you were running Bonneville, you would need an H rated tire 0-130 MPH...
Do you have an ECTA rulebook yet?  Just as well join and get one so you know all the rules...

SCTA 2007

"7.8.8
"0 t0 70 MPH   Any tire designed for motorcycle use is permitted."

ummmm....errrrrrr...oh boy...here goes anyway

mps-g 50cc record at Bonneville is 82.590

and

7.B.8. Third Paragraph
The required speed rating is governed by the record speed in the class entered.

not trying to pick a fight with you JAckD.....just trying to prove that some of us really are reading the rulebook out here!

Although my 2007 book is in the mail, I looked up the record, checked my 2006 rules and based my answer appropriately.  How fast you think you can go doesn't really count in any venue does it?
Get the rule book or hope someone smarter than us answers...

ok...i understand the original question had to do with ecta, but i am a bit confused about the bonneville references/comments....

I looked up the record, checked my 2006 rules and based my answer appropriately.  How fast you think you can go doesn't really count in any venue does it?

7.B.8. All motorcycle entries, including streamliners and sidecars, must use tires with an appropriate speed rating. The required speed rating is governed by the record speed in the class entered.

Stainless1 was this the specific part of the rule that you checked?

Are we giving SCTA answers to ECTA questions again?

An old ECTA rule book calls for standard production tires up to 125. Don't know about current. It also calls for a minimum of 15" wheels.

If there is no record in your class than speed in a similar class is used. The fastest ECTA 50cc record in the modified class is 65 mph. I think you should have no problems with the tires you have.

You really need a rule book. Have you joined ECTA yet?
Well, it used to be Los Angeles . . . 50 miles north of Fresno now.
Just remember . . . It isn't life or death.
It's bigger than life or death! It's RACING.

The 2 at the end of the class designation indicates it is an entry for ECTA as a 2 stroke.

The one I have is 70 cc fuel injected 2 stroke 13" tubeless tire .I just want to get an official time for that bike.
The one I want to build for a record attempt will have a 50cc carb with  nitrous MPS/F-50/2 same tires .I will get my rule book before I build the second one but I already have the fuel injected one pushing 60 mph.and I want to come down in September .

The tires I have are Michelin pilot sports the size is 130 /60- 13 mc I don't know what rating that is .
It would read 130 60 R13 But there is no R . the tires are sold as original equipment on 250cc scooters ..
