Nitrous bottle valve protection for MC - +PIC
« on: April 15, 2007, 02:53:13 PM »
What are folks using to protect their nitrous bottle valves? I'm hoping to use a 5lb bottle on my bike, and the valve is large, an NOS Hi-flow.

Thanks,
Dean

Go to www.tigerracingproducts.com  Guy advertises on this forum -- and has some nice pieces to get you through tech at Maxton and other venues.  I don't know if his stock item is what'll fit your HI-flow valve -- but ask him and he'll steer you straight to what you need (or will make it for you).

Sabat:

Where's your bottle going to be mounted?  Outside, where it can get whacked by the pavement (or whatever) -- or inside, like above the swingarm/under the tail?

It's going ahead of the rear wheel, in the swingarm, under the tail. Common drag racing mounting location. -Dean

I just heard back from Guy, I now understand that the cage is not necessary if the bottle is mounted 'inside' the bike. Thanks Jon.

That's about where I was going -- my bottle used to be at the front of the swingarm and was pretty-well defended in case of catastrophe.  The ones we require to be well-protected are those that are mounted outside -- maybe hanging off the tail piece or like that.  It still is a fine idea to protect the valve, of course.

If the bottle is mounted on the outside, you must have crash protection for the valve.  I make one for the 2 and 2.5 lb bottles only.

I know, I know!  It's really not a sunrise, but instead the glow from armament being tested on the Dugway Proving Ground, on the other side of Floating Mountain, and the Salt is really rough because it hasn't been dragged yet.

The picture is actually a nonflammable NOS bottle with the valve broken off.
If any if you are wondering about the condition of the rider, rest assured that a cow has never burned to death with NOS.
