1978 was the year Arnold made that pass. I think he only came one more year with the car. We tried to get him to put it in high gear and try it again, our RX4 could tow him to 115 MPH, but as Stainless said he wouldn't do it. I would have to think what year he had his girls in Penthouse. We sure have made and lost some good friends over the years.

It wasn't Penthouse it was This Old House in 56.
I remember their physical attributes caused the first "FOLD OUT" to be invented.
Man, did those girls sell a lot of SCTA laundry !!!

Mr. Maylin (da VP) was never a student of the art of noise.

I remember a guy running what I thought was an arctic cat 3 cylinder 2 stroke sled motor in a geo metro.
I thought it was great that he had to pop his hood and pull start the motor.
Never heard if he did any good in that car....but it didnt matter.....with a ride that sweet I'd bet he was able to pick up all the ladies.

All joking aside I can 100% respect anyone who can pull something that off the beaten path together to even make a run.

I certainly can not argue with that. For whatever it is worth I respect and listen to what my elders have to say on this forum. I have only been a part of LSR for a few years now and have many ideas that most people think are nuts. I will admit that it makes me feel better to know that, while even that it did not do 400+ mph the fact is that a concept that I had, with no previous knowledge of anyone doing before, was at one time thought to be a good idea by someone else.....and to the extent that they tried to make a working LS car from an idea we shared.

Now if I could only find someone to make a prototype Chevy SB DHOC hemi 4 valve per cylinder cylinder head that I have been working on.........

Look at one of the new Hemi crate motors, they are better than most SBC motors unless you are into a $60,000 comp motor or a good bike motor, for the "small ones".

Bruce Crower made them with an upper half and a lower half that you sandwiched together.
He did a 4vpc pushrod version also.
He had 2 on his straight 8 Nash motor.
I think Pete Aardema sells  cast conversions also.
Both are from the San Diego Roadster Club so ya gotta give them some room.

Insight, plans where to start, mistakes to avoid, links, pics, help, starightjacket for even attempting to do this.......We are very interested in getting to the salt, any help would be great. Are platform as it stands now is to run a VW engine, starting with 1600 cases, we are wanting to do it grass roots style, starting out just to get are feet salty , then move up as we get experience....Any Insight is a great help...

If I was going to do it,I would not start with a Type 1 case.
I'd use a Type 4,and weld up some new AMC castings.
Or convert a Type 5 to aircooled(aka Oxyboxer conversion) ,
and use after market Type 1 heads, like Competition Eliminators or Autocraft.

Even then, stock 4 valve heads are frequently better than
aftermarket 2 valve heads,so you are fighting a steep uphill battle.

G is 2015cc IIRC.
Larry Widmer get 297 hp from NA 2 liter Honda motors.

If you really like the pancake 4 cyl,you could adapt Subaru heads
onto a Type 1 or Type 5,because the bore spacing is the same.
Makes more sense to run the whole Subaru motor, the bottom end
will be more reliable with a 5 bearing crank, compared to only 3 on the VWs.

I guess the answer is "a Secret" .

Last time we saw Kathy, she had Arnold's stuff.  That's been quite a few years... it is an interesting piece of Bonneville history
They were from NY I think

I know some bikers in the business of tracking people down that I can get to do some research.

Arnold was my uncle and he died when I was younger and I have been looking to get some info about this car. Any more pics? I have only 4 or 5 pics that apear to have been taken in the early 1970's?  :?

DartMan, I will try to look this weekend. I think I might have more photos. How is Punky doing? Dart as in MOPAR? We sure miss Arnold and the crew.
