Salt + Tires + speed = ?Imballance?
« on: March 21, 2007, 02:41:25 PM »
I looked around, I cant find any other threads that had this type of question posed, so, I am sorry if I am repeating something.

I am looking to run my bike in a P/P class, and I see from a lot of other discussions that salt buildup on the tires is a problem.  I am looking to break 175 (thats the goal) and thats about 3,000 rpm at the tire.  Would the salt build up cause a significant imbalance of the tires?  OR  What do most bikers do about it?

Thanks!

Salt does not build up on a tire at speed any more than mud or water.
The thick stuff you might see occasionally is after the run when just rollling round in the wet..
The tire balance you started with is what you finish with unless a balance weight or tread didn't make it all the way.

Tight fenders can be interesting with damp salt.

Make sure the fender liner material and construction won't hold any more salt than you want.
Polyethylene and WD-40 are your friends.
