Get-together at LSR events?
« on: February 01, 2007, 09:38:09 AM »
Hello from an anonymous member of the group.  I've been lurking, thinking about how to go about introducing myself -- and seeing if there's any interest in having a get-together at any/all of the LSR events around the country.

If you'd like to discuss the concept, feel free to PM me.  I'm using the PM system so nobody has to give up the blessed anonymity that we all value.

I hope to hear from some of you soon.

Friend, it would help if you gave your location. There are LSR gatherings each year at different locations.

Well, sir, I get to the Salt, and I've been known to show up at Maxton, but I don't fool myself that I (personally) am so important that I'd have to be at any specific gathering for other folks to get together.

So let's just say that I go to every meet, no matter where.  I'm not trying to be as secretive as this may sound -- hope it doesn't put you off.  I'm sort of new at this kind of discussion.

I hope that lays your question to rest.

No problem with it, just wondering. You must know that we have a gathering at the bend in the road every year at speedweek, usually Sunday night. There is the dry lake at El Mirage, plus the local club banquets, the museums and the roadster show at Pomona. Never a shortage on the west coast and everyone is invited.
See you on the salt.

Friend, you would be suprised at how many like minded people are racing on the salt.  When asked by others how much I spend a year on my race car, I like to reply: "not as much as I used to spend on booze, courts and lawyers".  And I sure do enjoy the mornings a lot better.............Bob

To many of us each LSR event is a gathering.
We race
We socholize
We enjoy.
While I haven't done bend in the road yet, I'm looking forward to it

"SOCHOLIZE"  is done with a suitable ADULT beverage with likeminded or not LSR people.
After awhile car guys even talk to bikers and later they are talking to themselves.

Would you believe that was on purpose?

Yes, and you are a good student of the art.

Well, some of you were at the Reunion, and it was good to chat with you then.  I've enjoyed the notes that a few of you have sent my way -- it's encouraging to hear that I'm not the only one in this group.

I'd like to hear from you folks when you've got a minute.  I still would like to plan a face-to-face at ECTA or Bonneville events -- and maybe someone will step up and put someting together for El Mirage, too.  Send me a PM if you'd like to do so.

I'd love to organize a BBQ during the summer in the Pacific Northwest but with the pressure that happens as B'ville approaches I doubt that many people would want to spend a weekend at a party.
That's the reason the B'ville NW Reunion is when it is. It seems easier for people to burn a weekend in the winter than heading into race season.
If there is interest we could do a BBQ. My mailing list is available.

I've been lurking and doing other stuff for folks in the program, but now it's time to try and put something together for SpeedWeek.

I've been in touch with a few of you, and we have decided that we'll use Seldom Seen Slim's pit area as a gathering spot.  No special plans for a meeting -- but all are welcome to stop by and visit with one another.  We've chosen Slim because most folks seem to know him, and he's graciously allowed us to try to make us all feel welcome.

Stop by and make yourself known, and maybe we can plan a meeting of the minds for sometime during the week or so.  If any of you want to let me know that you'll be visiting -- so I can be expecting you -- that'll be fine.  Either PM me or post here.

I look forward to seeing you on the Salt.

Slim, how about some sort of a flag or banner so we can find you?  Perhaps a giant inflatable Brantwurst or a floating green building?
