Snowed In
« on: December 20, 2006, 09:23:28 PM »
Well left for work this morning with it snowing pretty good. I took the wifes new car her 06 Chrysler 300M AWD. I had to service it for our trip, leaving Friday at 4 am, to goto Minnesota for Christmas. GOt to work and it started to really come down, havent had a chance to drive this car is a pretty good snow, I had to check out how it handles. WOW> I am very impressed on the AWD and the big motor in snow conditions. Passed up people left and right. Just as long as you dont follow people with Florida and California plates NO problem.

I shoveled the driveway and cleaned my truck off and went back to work. When I got there they decided to shut down for the rest of the day. Then I went out and played in the Truck for awhile. Gave some rides and pulled a few people out.

I mean since DIA Airport shut down totally at around 11 am. Denver and surrounding areas shut down completely. I-25 north and south was shut down, I-70 and I-76 East and west all got shut down too. Snow came in fast and is stalling over Colorado, (Denver area) and is expected to dump another 12-20 inches tonight. THis was a picture at 5 PM, remember driveway was already shoveled at 1 PM and both cars were cleaned off and driven. NOt as much as Jon W gets in Michigan but it sure hurts when it comes in this fast.

That is what I like about the Snow Plow business in Denver.
Paint traffic lines and signs in the summer and plow them in the winter.

By contrast, Down Under (Melbourne) we're dealing with bush fires and 95 degree heat. The sky is a weird orange haze as smoke covers much of the state.

"Snow" Yeah, I've heard of that stuff. Falls from the sky? Every 15-20 years we get a dusting.
The last time it really, well kinda,  snowed in Los Angeles was:

              1949
Snowfall Occurrences 1921-2002 in DOWNTOWN LOS ANGELES (Civic Center)
Year    Month & Amount of Snowfall
1922    January (trace), March (trace)
1935    December (trace)
1947    December (trace)
1949    January (slightly more than 0.3 inches)
1950    April (0.2 inches)
1951    February (trace), March (trace)
1952    January (trace), March (trace), December (trace)
1954    January (0.3 inches), February (trace)
1957    January (trace)
1962    January (trace)

Well, it used to be Los Angeles . . . 50 miles north of Fresno now.
Just remember . . . It isn't life or death.
It's bigger than life or death! It's RACING.

Usually Snow is gone within two days, but this one will be here for awhile. Back in 03, we had another very wet, heavy snow that shut Denver and surrounding area's down. That snow snaped trees and created a mess, Buildings roofs collapsed in etc etc. That Snow total was 31.7", We are on tap to beat that total by at least 10". But its not a heavy snow like in 03.

What is up with Global warming...

Jon,

If you get out of Denver, there is no snow (yet) in the Minneapolis/St. Paul area. If you want a white Christmas bring some with you.

The day after I met Slim when he did a commercial with Nikon on the salt it snowed in Bendover and we ran on the dry salt.
The Snowplow Business in Denver is responsible for the rescue of a lot of orphans in Fashion Valley Shopping Center.
It would bring a tear to your eye.

After we sail past the last marker buoy, shorts are optional.
