Since Keith Turk doesn't seem to be bragging for himself (at least not here), I guess I'll do it for him.  The fantastic ten-page spread in the January issue of Hot Rod that just hit the newsstands says many nice things about Keith and Tonya and their performance at Speed Week in the "Hot Rod Special" Camaro.  I am not sure he deserves all the nice things said.    Wink    But Tonya does, so we should all give them both a nice e-pat on the back.

If you're not a regular reader of Hot Rod, it is for sure worth the trip to the newsie and the cover price to grab this one.

Keith bragging... naaaw.

On the other hand Keith has been a rather exceptional ambassador for LSR and he deserves all the Kudos that come his way.

 Thanks Keith.

The whole gig with Freiburger and Hot Rod has been a real treat... many of you might not know this but I'd loaned the car to another Fellow racer and he did some of the rebuild.. then had some business issue's come up which prevented him from running it.... Doc Bergner to his credit had the integrity to bring the car back in much better shape then I sent it to him and say he appreciated the loan but simply couldn't race the car....   So My true intentions have always been to see the car raced...

Race cars sitting, are only interesting... never record breaking... or of significant merit.

I'm looking forward to what happens next with the Camaro... El Mirage... Bonneville... Maxton?

David's the guy who's getting the sport the national recognition... I just helped provide the opportunity...  and Keep in mind He truly is the one tuning and providing the record setting power that got that done... and to me that makes the whole concept totally legit beyond anything that's ever been done before with the car mag guys....  So thank you David for the effort.

I think the great thing about the HR story is that it shows how hard it really is to make something like this happen. I will bet that the very same thing happens every year in hundreds of garages and shops around the country when that mid August date rolls around! And I really agree with Keith that a race car setting in a shop is interesting but it belongs at the races! Nice job Keith.

Next I want to see if Hot Rod does another article on B'ville to show some of the other great cars or will Frieburger just show off his efforts and then not do anything on B'ville until next year?

I really can't say what's next thou I've been hinted at, what it is.... I'd expect it much sooner then next year and it will be one that all of us can be proud of....

One of the things about Freiburger's write up was that he honestly included all those folks that busted Acura those last few months to make it happen....

When you walk through the pits at Bonneville, it is truly impressive to see the level of technology and fabrication excellence that is exibited by land speed racers. I think it is a true shame that cars like the Burkland's streamliner, Al Teague, Seth Hammond (both his old lakester and his new modified roadster), the Fergusons and so many others that you see at Bonneville that display such a high level of engineering and professional fabrication skills do not get any coverage in todays automotive press. But take a Jap rice burner, four door, hybred sh-t box and go over a hundred and let a "automotive journalist" drive it and you can get 4-5 pages of BS in Car and Driver. It just ain't right!

Setting on the side lines and hoping to get to the Salt one day with my Berkeley, I was up lifted by the Hot Rod Mag article, and having a telephone relationship with Keith I felt connected to this mad event.

Rex: The Burkland streamliner is featured in the March 05 issue and the Team Griffin B'ville Camaro will be in April. Also please note that I intentionally did the story on the Bonneville meet, covering many other racers before I did the story on the HOT ROD Spl. effort.

October was my first trip to the salt and to be there for the burklands runs was just mindblowing. So glad there's more bonneville coming in Hotrod. Was talking to a guy with the burklands car and asked him about the differentials they were running because they were big SQUARE boxes, He patiently explained.. "You know those billboards you see that go around?" They run the gearboxes that turn them at 1 to 1. This was before they laid down the pass on friday. Needless to say, the salt bug has bitten... Working on my chopped top stude now for real. Going to bonneville is a religious experience...

The salt fevor is life long, you are required to get a fix at least once a year. Even if you bring home a sample it won't work, ya have to do the injection onthe salt. I have been going to Bonneville since 1953, mised a couple of years while in the US ARMY. Got the shakes, bad moods and almost went awol to go see Mickey Thompson run. I was around the car while it was being built and even got my hands dirty a couple of times. Salt is a wonderful fix for us old guys.
Smelling nitro in the morning is the other.

Glen,
Amen to nitro in the morning. HAd been going to the Springnationals for that fix for years. Standing in the pits as the fuel cars warm up. LAst year here's all these young guys seeing who can stand behind the fuel cars the longest. My son was with me so.. of course i outlasted them all...choking with eyes burning but happy. Berserko Bob for english town always takes some respirator masks and then keeps them in a plastic bag so when you get it out, there's the nitro smell to remind you..nitro at bonneville.. ultimate high... I Did bring some salt home with my badge; doesn't help at all but i refuse to sell it on ebay.
