150 club
« on: June 25, 2020, 12:33:57 PM »
I'm planning on going for the 150 club. I already made the 130 club in 2011. I have new tires 245/45-17 and 275/40-17 w rated cooper tires. Same size I ran in 2011. My rear tread width is 9.6 inches. I know they are a little wide but I drive 1500 miles to get there and no room for different tires. I can buy 2 245-45-17 that are 8.1 wide but more money and mount those on different rims and drive with those. 1979 Trans Am. Any thoughts appreciated especially from tech inspectors.
No trailer ran 135mph at the World of Speed 2011 see you in 2012 in Ohio and back at Bonneville at the world of speed going for the 150club 1979 Firebird T/A White . Ck out YOU TUBE. KERRY AT BONNEVILLE. Didn't  make 2012,2013,2014. ECTA in Ohio 2012 trans went out and 2013 fuel problems . Still trans and fuel problems. Finally all looks good. Ready to drive (no trailer) 1500 miles to Bonneville and It's cancelled. NEXT YEAR. SEPT. ECTA RAN 144 MPH. GETTING BETTER. 2021 Ran 152 fulfilled a ten year dream to make the 150 club.

I built a trailer hitch rack for the tires on my Camaro when I ran the 150 club.

That said, at 150mph I doubt that you need to run different tires on the back but I myself would want a set of front runners on the front, preferably M&H's.

Just my 2 cents, Don

Skinny tires are preferred, as they'll provide more traction when you're getting started, but they're not required for the 150 Club.   I know we ran some pretty wide ones on my kid's 350Z when we ran it in the 150 Club.   And yes, I'm a USFRA car inspector - your W-rated street tires will be fine.

One more question. The rules state the roll bar must be bolted to the floor. I welded mine in and the hoop also goes thru the floor and is welded to the frame connectors. I have swing out bars with brackets that are NHRA legal. All OK I will see you in September.

Welded is also acceptable, provided the welding is done properly.  See you there in Tech!

Another question. I bought new racing seat belts a few years ago put them in last year. Just checked
Dated June 2018. Will I be able to pass tech for 150 club.
They are like new. I would hate to replace them again. Help.

Although NHRA limits aftermarket racing belts to 2 years after manufacture, SCTA and USFRA allow them for 5 years.

Well I fulfilled a lifelong dream. Drove my car to Bonneville ran 152MPH to make the 150 club. Now I can go on the website and see my name in the books and dream about next year. Thank you thank you so much to the USFRA for putting on a wonderful event. The salt was groomed perfectly, even the road to the pits.

I'm looking forward to running the 150 club in September. Last September I made it in with 152mph. Now I would like to up that another 5mph in September. My helmet is a full face snell 2010.  Will I pass tech or do I need to buy a new one. Obviously hardly used.

Their rules still say 2005 or newer... the next step would be 2010 or newer... my guess is you're good.
