WOW!!  what flashbacks---he is 5 years older than I ---there wasn't much of this going on in E Tex but there was some  When I started driving my folks had a 50 Ford flattie with an OD  when I wrecked that they got a 57 245 HP 312 that was pretty wicked on the top end  could not out drag a slightly warmed up chevy but I could out run most things on the top end----hence my addiction to FLAT OUT :-D
