In my opinion I believe that the BLM does not want us at either Bonneville or El Mirage. Increased regulations and fees plus no reciprocal services have shaped my outlook.

Tacos....I just may put on a mask and go stand outside waiting my turn. Seems like this could have been avoided easily. :clap

John,

After 55+ years at Bonneville I realize that this no longer my fathers salt. Politics and nature have discouraged me
for the present. I hope for a bright future.

Considering that the SCTA says the meet (at this time) is going forward, one would think that they have been in contact with the BLM and that whatever permits required are in hand. Of course we all know what making assumptions does.

My previously stated opinion is just that, my opinion. I have no inside line on what will/will not happen at the salt this year. I have just had enough fun out there and my team is mostly moving out of California so the build days are limited.

This is what John is talking about.

Speed Week Update #1 ? 5/7/2020:

We had one major choice in front of us this year concerning the Bonneville National?s Speed Week 2020. Should we keep our plans in motion or should we stop and cancel it due to Covid19?

After much discussion, we have decided to proceed with our plans and we hope by August we will have a better handle on safety. It is now the beginning of May and we are still uncertain, but pushingahead. The volunteer lists are in place and entries are coming in. Safety and management is our top priority.

The SCTA & BNI remain optimistic, but we understand that this year more than any in recent history has given us many hurdles to overcome. Generally, our most pressing concern would be the salt condition, but this year our first concern is the virus and safety.

We are currently discussing and making plans on how to keep everyone protected. This includes the racers, crew, spectators and of course our long list of volunteers.

As we move forward, each and every individual will have to carefully weigh the risk factor for themselves and others in their crew. Everyone must understand what we are up against and they need to make their own personal decision on whether to attend or not. ?Social Distancing? is now a part of our daily lives, that plus good old common sense will go a long way toward keeping everyone safe.

We will keep everyone updated. At this point, Bonneville Speed Week is still a Go until we have a definitive No Go from the state of Utah or other sources. We cannot forecast when or if we will have to change plans.

Until then, we hope to see you on the salt.

Pat McDowell BNI Chairman
Bill Lattin SCTA President

SW Update - 5/12/2020

We have GREAT news! The Health Dept. has given us permission to apply for our Speed Week Permit!

This is an extremely positive development and it paves the way for all of us to get back to the Salt this year!

Speaking of Salt, we have just had a promising update on salt conditions. We will probably be able to start the grooming process within the next couple of weeks. It?s almost completely dry & it?s smooth! Stay tuned for those updates!

Not that anyone really needs a reminder, but please keep in mind as we prepare for Speed Week we still need to practice ?social distancing? & everything that goes with it. We will do our best to provide a safe environment, but we will need your help. Common sense & consideration for others goes a long way!

That?s about all for now. We will let you all know as soon as we get official approval on our permit.

Until then cross your fingers & maybe even do a little salt dance, just in case!........................

?SEE YA ON THE SALT!?

Well, Hey, see what I meant by "making assumptions" LOL. Geeezzz. Now they get to apply. Oh well. Seems the gov't is hell bent on opening things so BLM to follow suit? Ha, Another assumption.  :dhorse:

Looks like our helpful casino friends are taking a BIG RISK!!!

If thing don't go right, they're only to get a little rich without opening up.  And they're so flexible with giving you the room you thought you might get (or not).  Don't come early ? they don't want to be bothered.  Just wait 'til 4 p.m. ? shoot a little craps, play roulette or something.  (I bet you could get Early Check-In with a small Half Day Charge.
