"The one advantage to Speedweek is that there is no need for spectators to be closely bunched together in a grandstand type situation. This sort of setup may be acceptable to authorities. Keep our fingers crossed." (Quote lifted from reply #8)
Fingers crossed, indeed. While I appreciate the positivity and levity of everyone surrounding this, the fact that most of us are seniors and that we are the most endangered age group tells me that even with the open areas of the salt surrounding us all, there are still plenty of common ways to spread infection. I would appreciate an SCTA official and/or Monte releasing a statement on the go/no-go status of Speedweek/USFRA events ASAP. We are up against a very tight timeline to finish our car for this year, and there is also the factor of non-refundable room reservations, possibly closed hotels/restaurants in Wendover, and certainly issues for the foreign participants who may already be in the process of shipping/transporting their machines and crew into a country where everything will be/is already closed and travel restricted.
The latest news has everything in the nation shut down for at least the next 30 days. While I am not a fearmonger, statistically this is going to get a lot worse before it gets better, and the only question now is how long it will take to eradicate the virus, an answer that no one can give except statistically, which right now is estimated to be about 90 days, or June 18. So, again, some guidance from SCTA/USFRA would be appreciated.
