Down here in Southwest Nova Scotia, hand sanitizer and masks are unavailable, but the good news is that the price of lobster has dropped from $15 per pound to $4 (CDN - about $2.80 US).  So we'll just have to substitute lobster for Dinty Moore  beef stew. Guess what we had for supper?

"The one advantage to Speedweek is that there is no need for spectators to be closely bunched together in a grandstand type situation. This sort of setup may be acceptable to authorities. Keep our fingers crossed." (Quote lifted from reply #8)

Fingers crossed, indeed.  While I appreciate the positivity and levity of everyone surrounding this, the fact that most of us are seniors and that we are the most endangered age group tells me that even with the open areas of the salt surrounding us all, there are still plenty of common ways to spread infection.  I would appreciate an SCTA official and/or Monte releasing a statement on the go/no-go status of Speedweek/USFRA events ASAP.  We are up against a very tight timeline to finish our car for this year, and there is also the factor of non-refundable room reservations, possibly closed hotels/restaurants in Wendover, and certainly issues for the foreign participants who may already be in the process of shipping/transporting their machines and crew into a country where everything will be/is already closed and travel restricted.

The latest news has everything in the nation shut down for at least the next 30 days.  While I am not a fearmonger, statistically this is going to get a lot worse before it gets better, and the only question now is how long it will take to eradicate the virus, an answer that no one can give except statistically, which right now is estimated to be about 90 days, or June 18.  So, again, some guidance from SCTA/USFRA would be appreciated.   8-)

Next we need to define "closed".  Follow the link and you'll see that they're ALL closed - sorta.

Sure looks good! In Orange County California, Stater Brothers Markets, sells frozen/defrosted Lobster Tails for $16.69 per pound.  Lobster needs to be cooked, any suggestions for a good recipe?

On the other hand Dinty-Moore Beef Stew and Hormel Chile, are like the U S Army's Meals-Ready-to-Eat. Just pop-the-top and eat straight from the can. Heating is optional :-)

BTW  Bone-In Beef Rib Eye Steak is currently selling for $8.39 per pound, at Stater Brothers. How much does Rib Eye sell for in your town  :-D

Today I went to Fastenal to get some pop rivets.  The procedure is to phone in the order, e-mail it, or write it out and drop it through the postal slot in the door with your credit card.  They pull the stuff off of the shelves and pass it to you out of the back door along with your credit card.  It is company policy.  Tomorrow I will stock up on sheet metal while I can get it.

Sure it's all a hoax I tell ya!  :dhorse: Tell that to the 42,163 infected and the 512 dead in the US so far!

Here in Canada everything is shut down, all the restaurants, bars and shops. They figure 30% of small businesses will not re-open ever. The economy will take years to recover from this. They have tested 30,000 people in Quebec province so far which is more tests completed than the entire countries of the USA and France combined!  Our local BC government has stopped all elective surgeries and they have a 1000 cleared, ready and available empty beds if this escalates. Right now we have 42 infected in hospital in BC. Thanks god we have an effective health care system and local government!

Realistically, local racers here are not  holding much hope for any Bonneville events this summer. I don't think it's going to happen.
Never underestimate an old guy on a Yamaha!

Nova Scotia has a total of 236 cases, 0 dead.  All our entry points (3 ferries and 1 highway) are monitored.  But we all take this seriously, social distancing, carry a roll of paper towels and disinfectant in the car, no masks nor hand sanitizer available.  My wife and I are self-isolating - - not much difference in our life style as we live in the south western tip of N.S. on 140 acres.  But the possible reality of no meets in the near future, no travel to Colorado to see our other grandchildren, etc. is disheartening.  We will survive.

Take care and stay safe.  This is not a drill!

Tom

P.S. Lobster has dropped to $3 per pound and the Canadian dollar is down to $.70.  Think I'll just have to get some more - - it's cheaper than chicken!

Are the prices on seal flippers going down, too?  If they are, make some extra pies now!
