COVID-19 shutdowns
« on: March 14, 2020, 01:58:13 PM »
OK, this may sound a little stupid but with all the government and private shutdown of businesses, sporting events and other places people gather, will SpeedWeek and World of Speed be affected? It may not be a SCTA or USFRA call.

A bit far into the future John. At least I'm saving a lot of recording space on my DVR.

I think that this "junk news" induced panic should be over by Speed Week time.

I hope so, Dan and Rex but the Summer Olympics have been canceled and they are close to SpeedWeek. Additionally, we are at the beginning of the infection cycle for this virus. Talk among health care professionals is that 50% of the US population will catch this virus within a month. The rest of us will likely get it sometime later. Point is, shutdown of group events are just beginning and as more of the population becomes infected, more shutdown will occur.

Totally agree with Rex, media fear mongering!
Wash your hands, don't cough on your neighbour and it will run its course, just like SARS, H1N1, Zika, West Nile etc.
Bring on Speed Week!!! I really need to run the truck this year!

Now that Wichita has it's first case, I obviously live to close so I left for Australia...  :? maybe the DLRA will hold their meet and we will see what happens.  If they cancel Johnboy and I will tour the big island for 3 weeks.   Then we will worry if n get back in the country

When you return, I hope you do not go through LAX. I understand all that do are quarantined for 14 days. Have fun in OZ.

Just to clarify, at this point only the Greek part of the Olympic torch relay has been cancelled. I think the games are probably on perilous ground but they have so far been on record as being held.

The one advantage to Speedweek is that there is no need for spectators to be closely bunched together in a grandstand type situation. This sort of setup may be acceptable to authorities. Keep our fingers crossed.

Pete, I just hope the BLM is not involved in any decision that affects LSR racing. They have demonstrated they are not our friend and because they control use permits, could easily determine our fate. They are government, after all.

Look, I am seriously hoping nothing gets in our way. I have a good hot rod this year and want to see how well it performs.
