292 XO engine

Hello,
I am building a Rat Rod that i would like to eventually take to a LSR event, specifically Eli Mirage.
Now, my intention it's to enter the vintage inline category therefore I chose a 292 Chevy Inline, I also have a 250 but would rather take advantage of the cubes.
I can not find an online PDF version of the rule book so I am asking for advice as to what modifications can be performed to the engine to have fun.
The general vehicle info is 46 Chevy truck, 292 inline engine (EFI right now, would go back to carburetors for vintage compliance) 5 speed OD manual tranny, suicide front mounted axle with split wishbones and Ford 9" rear with triangulated 4 link,  all 4 corners on airbags.
I appreciate any info and would love to know if I can buy an online downloadable Rulebook.

Hey Luis.
There isn't a downloadable version of the rule book. For what you are trying to do, the 2020 version is applicable. You can buy one online for 10 bucks. The 2021 edition is at the printers and should be available to buy at the May meet.
What SCTA club are you in? The President of your club will get a stack of rule books once they become available.

And you might be interested to know the 250 ad 292 engines are not legal in XO.  235 and 261 are legal along with 270 and 302

Luis, As Rich pointed out, the reason is XO is for 1959 and earlier engines.

. . . and with the suicide front end, I'm guessing the body might not be completely stock to run in any pickup class.

You can run "Time Only" with a vehicle that passes all safety requirements including a full cage and approved fire systems -- and more.

Or... you can bring it to the WoS meet at Bonneville and run it in the 130 club...

Check for a link on the home page to the USFRA.... the rules for the club racers are online at the USFRA website.

Note, however, that chopped tops are considered to be the same as convertibles and require a "4-point roll bar."

A 292 with the stock head has some tough competition: Ford 300.
The 216/235/261 are vintage legal, but too small to run against GMC 302 and Buick 320.

Or the Ford 302. Or the Chevy same. Chrysler hemi 301 is also a "D" engine. It's a tough class.

Thank you all for your kind replies and advice. I guess I'll go ahead and build my 292 and then as the vehicle is finished will procure a 302 although they are pricey.
I guess I'll be more concerned about what category my vehicle will fit as an engine is easier to change down the road.
I will get me a copy of the rule book and no I'm not a member of any club as I am south of the border in Sonora, Mexico.

Luis... Look at the USFRA 130 and 150 Club rules and info at their website... It is one of the best ways to get into LSR.  It is not El Mirage... it is Bonneville.

. . . but you can also be an out-of-the-area member of an SCTA club and participate at El Mirage.  The Road Runners are based in Riverside, California.  Take a look at their website for more information and contact information.

My personal guess is your RR 1946 Chevrolet pickup does not come close to resembling a stock appearing 46 Chevrolet pickup. You will have not class to run in if this is true. The best thing you could do is add a photo here. A 292 cubic engine will compete it "D" classes and even with a "time only" designation your vehicle will need to meet at minimum the slowest "D" record in the rule book which would be over 160 safety rules. I understand the new rule books are out. Good Luck with your project..
