shifting a C4
« on: December 31, 2019, 04:06:40 PM »
Happy New Year all,
I've been following the recent budfab shifting topic and it got me interested again in shifting my C-4 without a torque converter. Current set up is a simple manual lever starting with N then pushing forward 1,2,3 get through the lights and jerk it back through the gears into N.
So anyhow I started looking again & came across this on YouTube:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JcS96cIUx1c

Looks to me that by using an Arduino control board, 2, 4 way controllers & 2 buttons on the butterfly wheel, One for the N-1,2,3 shift and the other button to slam that dude back to neutral.
Looks like it could be do-able?  Anyone try or see anything like this, maybe even with air switches?

Why complicate the simple system you now have?

LOL... I know Stan, I just got bored and have never seen this ingenious simple solution of mating a couple of cylinder to make 4 definitive moves.

Also seems like it's getting harder to move in the ever shrinking cockpit... Or maybe it's the ever expanding me ;-)

Your shift pattern is not very safe. Your jerking the gears in a down shift mode if I read what you posted correctly. If thats true have you ever experienced what happens when you down shift from third to first on a run if for whatever reason you stop prior to getting into neutral?  its not pretty you end up spinning when the rear tires abruptly stop.

Yes for sure that would not be good. So what to do without a torque converter and a C4 transmission. I don't think I am the only one with this combination.

Its simple the standard shift pattern manual valve body is all you need when your in third gear the next movement would be to neutral. I use a standard pattern manual valve body made by Dynamic to shift 1st, 2nd and 3rd gears to shift each gear I use a transmission cable thats 14 feet long easy to find at Jegs, Summitt and I bet from many others.  I drive a rear engine modified roadster modified the cable shifting makes it so easy and safe.

I do not have a torque converter? So how do you start. Get your push while in N then go from N,3,2,1 then run back through the gears, (1,2,3) then N on your way down the course?
Sorry for my ignorance just trying to figure this out.
