That's a really interesting article where it should receive good exposure that does show much of the truth of what's been going on. It also shows how much effort and money is needed. Hopefully some progress can be made.

In this article, Brenda Bowen continues to state that "racers" are also responsible for the decrease in the depth of the salt. Has anyone seen any data supporting this? Of course every car that drives on and off the salt flats takes a small amount with them, but in the big picture is that even measurable? Does the mere act of racing cause less accumulation of salt?
I just don't see how we are the ones responsible for the salt crust decreasing as much and as rapidly as it has been?

Don, just remember that

1. It is Brenda Bowen, the Smirking Scientist, and
2. It is the New York Times.

Good article... with the exception of Ms. Bowens' statement of racers contributing to deterioration of the salt surface.

Yep, probably the best article we have seen on the subject,

Stainless sums it up perfectly. Follow the money. Gee, look at how old we all are. There won't be anyone to complain in a few years and they can take it all.

The article was well done & considering the author has no background in the subject matter we should be pleased. As Carroll Shelby would say, "There is no bad ink" & "Just spell my name correctly".
While I don't necessarily agree there is no bad ink, in this case it will go a long way in terms of eye balls...
