The coast is only 800 miles away.  If it's real quiet in New Mexico, you can hear the waves breaking in La Jolla.

I think a name change is in order, maybe the West of the Mississippi Timing Association (WOTMTA) or Middle America Timing Association (MATA) and do red hats with MATA on them.

This sounds like a neat event, the facilities look first class.  I will miss smokey casino rooms that are quadrupled in price for races, but I'm sure New Mexico will catch on quick.

Whats the cost and the rules? Would be nice if information was listed here to let racers know if its worth the effort. My Lambo im sure will be good for this event and safe.

If it is not a one off meet, it will become the "Bolivia" of pavement LSR with altitude of 4600' and 12,000' of fresh concrete traction. Thanks to those who put the event together.  Wish I was younger and lived closer. Burned out after traveling to Bonneville for 40 years from the East Coast. We could see 300 again by both bike and car. Take pics someone and Good Luck.  LSL

4600' altitude?  Dang - that means the Bonneville tuneup will be pretty close to start with.  How convenient. :clap :clap

I contacted Spaceport about the February event and here was the reply:

Hi, John.

Thank you for your interest.

The event is open to all vehicles. It is invitation-only and is exclusively for 200+mph vehicles.  The field is limited to 30 teams and the entry fee is $3000.

Please feel free to contact Steve at 812-305-0710 to discuss further details.

Best Regards,
CJ

Maybe, over time and a larger entry field, cost will come down.

If it is not a one off meet, it will become the "Bolivia" of pavement LSR with altitude of 4600' and 12,000' of fresh concrete traction.

The first question I would ask is how they poured the concrete! Why you ask, well I remember many years ago the SCTA took a few cars up to Vandenburg air force base to see how the cars would work on the concrete surface there. As I recall it was OK for suspended cars, but cars without suspension could not run as they became unstable over 150 to 200 because of the way the concrete was poured in sections as I recall. That was many years ago, but it would still be a valid question.

Well there goes the thoughts of any savings from the jacked up casino hotel room rates during speed week!   Event gas prices might be reasonable

Has anyone seriously considered going for the wheel-driven record on such a course? 1.05 G for a mile and a half gets you to 500. (Yes, I know it wouldn't be an FIA record without a flying kilo, but still...)

Having the 200 MPH requirement will be great for the supercar idea the ECTA is now promoting.  I think the Black Lambo that hit 233 in the half mile earlier this year at the ECTA event would be a perfect fit for this event or the green one.  I think one of those Lambos crashed while pursuing some high speed fun on the street the car was totaled so much for the safety aspects built into them.
