Hopefully everyone is just too busy getting ready to keep up here.  I will be there!  Excited for my first time on the salt.

Any other first timers here?

They are online... they are different than the LSR rules... Most folks ride in for that class, it gives first timers a chance to ride the salt without all the LSR requirements.
It's like the USFRA's 130 club at the bike meet.

Finishing up today and leaving tonight.  I really hope I don't need a steering damper or deadman lanyard!

Here are the AMA records as of earlier today.  I am happy to have the 250 M-CF record on my first time out! (even if it is slower than I hoped for).

Take a look at the speeds.  Ralph Hudson went 240 or so, Al Lamb about the same earlier (sorry - don't have the numbers in front of me - hope I'm not too wrong).  If those guys are running below 250 - the track ain't great.

For the long course they only managed a 7 mile instead of a 9.  I suspect that is the big difference for the fast guys.

I am a newbie here so can't compare personally but sounds like MUCH better than a couple weeks ago at speed week (been hot and dry every day since then).

Take a look at the speeds.  Ralph Hudson went 240 or so, Al Lamb about the same earlier (sorry - don't have the numbers in front of me - hope I'm not too wrong).  If those guys are running below 250 - the track ain't great.

Here's a first-hand account from the FIM article listed above:

Ralph Hudson had a scary moment when he got some bad headshake at over 200 mph (321 km/h), but he backed off and kept it safe during his run. He made some chassis changes and returned to the course to record a speed of 233.559 mph (375.877 km/h). Not enough for a FIM Land Speed World Record, though he did reach an AMA record today.

"I think that's good enough. I had high hopes that we were going to be able to chase the 300 record here, but the conditions just don't allow it," said Hudson. "I talked to Al Lamb and he said he was having the same handling issues I was, that the front end kinda pushes and it doesn't go where you put it. [laughs] It needs to be a harder surface. It's much better than it was two weeks ago, but it's still not what we need.

"I think I've probably done enough. So, I think I'm just going to be satisfied and go home happy."

Without question the salt is better than Speedweek, it would be based on the weather conditions since.  But it is still a bit soft and squishy, that is why they are having handling issues.  If conditions persist the salt will continue to improve as the mud under it starts to dry.... the caveat... unless the mud dries unevenly then we get the roughness of 16-17...
Just my opinion, not necessarily that of the staff and management of the Salt  :dhorse:

Stay safe out there guys, have fun and go fast
