Spam Assault
« on: August 20, 2019, 10:41:53 AM »
Most of you may not know this forum has been under assault the last week.... unless you found the 58 reply pill ad before we killed it yesterday... all from the same spammer
I think it may be time to make folks take multiple actions to join the Forum.... Maybe not allowing a finished registration until they post on the introduction thread.  Maybe an auto delete of membership if the first post is not on the intro thread within 24 hours of joining.
Can that be done?
I don't know what it will take, but Bob the Web Elf has been doing a great job of keeping folks that threaten you and your web safety off of this site.

I looked into the registration, we used to have 3 questions that had to be answered..... those are gone.  I expect the 'mod' was incompatible with the big forum upgrade.  I'll find another and install it.

I HATE spammers!

Yeah, it's been busy on the "delete this account" and "ban this user" scene for the past days/week, 'specially 'cause I was driving home and didn't spend much time online.

Thanks, Bob.  Sure glad I caught up on the bill last month.

Hi Bob,

We use the three questions at registration on my SMF forum and also have the Stop Forum Spam and Anti-Spam Links packages installed. Seems to be working OK with our recent forum update (which we did not long after you guys did your update here).

Thanks, Doc.,

I found the questions and disguised-word 'captcha'.  I was looking under Registration, not Security.  I changed the questions, and we'll see...

Thanks for saying what packages you use, that's the next step.
