15" steel wheels Manufacture
« on: February 08, 2020, 09:52:21 AM »
Are there any steel wheel manufactures left?   I need some 5x5" slightly dished 15X6.5" made to clear some Buick finned drums I can't seem to find the guys in Ark that I have ordered wheels from over the years may just have to try to make them but its not as simple as when wheels were rivited together

Were you looking for Marsh Racing Wheels in Arkansas?

https://www.facebook.com/pages/category/Automotive-Parts-Store/Marsh-Racing-Wheels-160488757305445/

I've gotten wheels from them years ago so don't know if it is still the same owners or not,

Unfortunately it looks like the last entry in FB for Marsh Racing Wheels was in 2015. They used to be a great supplier.

Back in 1998, Bruce Geisler, Courtney Hizer and myself had both 15" and 18" wheels made by "Hoppy" Hopson in L.A.
Hoppy worked for American Racing Wheel and had a side business making steel wheels for roundy-round racers (think "aero type").
The last I heard (about ten years ago) Hoppy was General Manager at American Racing Wheel so You might track Him down there.
He had a really slick set up that pressed the centers in and checked the runout (none) on a rotating fixture which had three wire feed welders with fixed torch heads located 120 degrees apart but separate from the rotating table.  When He hit the button all three welders started simultaniously (I ain't got no dictionary close) as did the rotating jig.  In about thirty seconds one side would be fully welded and then He flipped them over and repeated the process.
Bruce knew him really well but We are two weeks late to ask Him and now He and Courtney are building cars in the sky.
                                                                                                       "One Run", out............................

The owner at Marsh passed away in 2015.  They tried to keep it going, but have closed.
