New guy with lots of questions.
« on: November 22, 2006, 12:50:45 AM »
Okay so I'm a new guy here and not real sure where to post an intro. Since I want to join the ECTA this is where I'll start.  I have read in Hot Rod and on the net about B-ville and have always wanted to go land speed racing. But Bonneville is to far away for now. I live in Alabama and I dont have a trailer or a truck to pull it with. My goal right now is to put a smallblock in my 82 S-10 and drive to Maxton. I want to attend the Hot Rod top speed challenge. I know I will not break records my first time out. But I want to have fun and drive real fast. That and a close friend said I couldn't do it. My first shot at this I want to have a streetable truck and eventually make it a race only truck. I plan on using a 350 I already have and a rear axle out of a 96 Sonoma that I will put a Camaro differential in. Beyond that I dont know what tires to run or suspension or trans. Any suggestions are appreciated.

Thanks
Lon

Welcome . Go to the ECTA site down load the Hr. rules . Try to get as much of the weight off the front as you can.Good gas shocks, and go low .
dot drag street tire or z rated tires for 175+, h rated upto 175.A 4 speed would be better than an auto. 3.08-3.31 gear . Hope that helps .
Much luck, terry

well,
terry is the master of the 80's s10.
but you really need a rulebook to start $10, there are a few things to do, pretty much any car can come to maxton and run, they just get limited to under 135 w/o the proper  equipment.
what do you think terry 350  400 horse will get about 150 mph?
what  you need to do is figure out  how much hp you actually have so  you can set up  to run as fast as that hp will allow. the faster  you want to go the more safety things required. , but you can drive a stock street car to 135

for a rulebook or membership (or just to say hello)call or email

why dont you stay at the pine acres? or anywhere but the scot? like to live on the edge?tempt fate> see how the lower half lives? want to be on csi n/c?
scott was telling me that he stayed there once and they put him in a room  with a hole in the door  big enough to put a softball through. i didnt ask wether it was a punch hole or shotgun  hole but neither would suprise me.

it reduces the crawling distance between the adult beverage dispensing cubicle downstairs and the room with my things in them upstairs. :D

we made a quick excursion to pine acres at the sept meet and either missed out on the festivities or the only gearheads we found were powered by methanphetamine. is that a new class being offered by the ECTA/NHRA/SCTA/NCSP?

oh, and glock .45's in any flavor on the nightstand keep issues at a minimum!

Delawarecrew you could have showed my good side
I may on a good day with a tail wind have 270hp/180 to 220 at the rear 138 mph 3.08 gear. 150mph as a swag would take 300 rwhp.
By the way have a good thanksgiving.
