Unloading/storage
« on: June 14, 2019, 09:11:58 AM »
Hi Folks,

This year i hope to have 2 vehicles and race in 3 classes, after my rookie year last year. Bringing the bikes from the England and might need some support, as trying to match shipping times and my arrival time is proving difficult. I am arranging for crate to be delivered to Wendover by truck from the sea port, but i might need somewhere that can fork truck it off the lorry and store for a day or so.
I know some of the casino's have done this, but i'm booked into Motel 6 and doubt they would do it for a non resident, unless you know/can tell me otherwise?

So, does anybody know of a helpful company that would fork truck off a 2m x 1m x 1m crate and store for a few days at most for a cost that isn't crippling?
As always any help most appreciated, cheers Ian

I'd contact Mike Crawford, the owner of the Carquest Auto Parts store in Wendover, Utah.  I should think he'd be able to guide you to what you need.  Also consider calling the West Wendover (Nevada) tourism center.  The folks there have been helping racers for years, too, and again might be able to steer you to a local resource.

It is my understanding that Mike Crawford had absconded to some other state taking all the money for the museum with him.
Was that just a bad rumor?

FYI

The City of Wendover City council (Utah)  has voted down the building of the museum since no legacy funding was secured. Mayor Mike Crawford has purchased a residence on the other side of the country and may well be leaving this project in the dust bin.

Please be careful before you donate anything, or any money to this project.

Mike Crawford got it all the money, and items. It would be respectful if the man would return the items, or denote them the university of Utah Marriott Library that already maintains a significant land speed racing archive.

I would hope the company delivering to Wendover is using a lift gate truck.  You might call the Motel 6 and ask Mr Kim if it could be delivered to a parking space in front of the office.  I would bet the casinos have a forklift... Landsend Linda might be able to help, try an email or PM.

Lynda Ainge is the long-time "gatekeeper" at the end of the paved road out to the race area, and she has quite a bit of knowledge.  She lives and works in Wendover.  BUT - she has "retired" from being the boss at Land's End and her daughter Teahuana (sp?) is taking over and I don't know how to contact her.

I'd go with the folks at the tourist center if the other leads he guys here are offering don't work out.
