Sid, that's exactly how I heard the  middle of course #1 described by -- an official, not just a competitor.  There just weren't nothin' that could be done to make it better.  I'll post a couple of pics of the water table situation when I get home.  I found this puddle near the edge of the return road late in the day when the light was just right to show how close to the surface the water table lies.  This pic was taken last Wednesday -- the rains had fallen the previous Thursday.  The cone line follows the underground river that traverses the salt.  Said river didn't remain underground all week, although course workers hauled in salt and filled it as best they could.

To bad so much salt material is gone if it was thicker the water table would be further below. A full moon causing this is hard to believe after Thursdays two daytime showers and the dinner time rain we had four days of dry and warm weather. Things were plenty dry by Tuesday morning and still the surface was junk. Mes thinking theres more to this than a moon or some rain four days prior to when we finally were allowed to run. The spring weather pattern needs to be looked at if its wet and cold and not getting warm theres going to be trouble a few locals already knew it was going to be a problem well before the event took place noting this weather pattern. Those knowing how the spring weather will effect the surface are way ahead of knowing whats going to happen. Just look at last years spring weather hot and dry and compare that to this years cycle. For the future getting to know the early weather pattern will help guide how the surface conditions will be. Some will poke fun at weather change but for what we need the local weather pattern should be of concern and maybe even a separate post beginning in early spring on this forum to help educate us on whats going on.

Well said,we met a gentleman at a gas station on our way out of town on Wednesday,he was fueling up his city of Wendover garbage truck,we got to BSing and he said he also helps run the water for the city and also is in charge of 2 reservoirs,he stated the the rain wasn?t the cause of this year?s conditions, record rain and snow all season has caused the high water table. He feels if weather stays warm that WOS may be ok.I should have got a phone # for future conditions from a guy who knows :x

So, a bit of useless trivia that highlights how bad the track was. George and Speed Demon got the fast time of the meet with the only 2 runs over 300. But the fastest record (until they put up the official ones anyway) was set by a lowly Gasoline powered, Naturally aspirated G motor car at 182.144 which also was the only long course qualifier all week.  8-)

I'm pretty sure that's correct, even though they (still) haven't posted the Friday morning return runs.  I think those were all short course vehicles, though.

According to my count of the posted results - it looks like only 29 different vehicles (2 bikes and 27 cars) - actually made a "full" pass.  And this year, that was only 4 miles instead of 5.

Pedantry: Speed Demon made three 300+mph runs (two on 13 and one on 15 August).  According to the results posted on the SCTA-BNI web site, anyway.

Arguably the most interesting fast runs were Salt Shark's 288mph and 290mph in BGS/B.  New-ish car, extraordinary shape and front wheel drive (I think).  clap
