PRESS RELEASE

Team Vesco’s Turbinator II was inducted into the Dry Lakes Racing Hall of Fame on Saturday, May 4th. The induction ceremony was held at Mendenhall’s Museum in
Buellton, CA. Vesco’s Turbinator II and Danny Thompson’s Challenger 2 were on display together with the Gyronaut motorcycle streamliner in front of a large, very enthusiastic crowd.

Turbinator II and driver Dave Spangler had a very successful year of racing on the Bonneville Salt Flats in 2018. Team Vesco won the Hot Rod Magazine Top Time Trophy
at Speed Week. Turbinator II then set the fastest event record in SCTA’s 70-year history at 482.646 MPH in September. In October Spangler clocked a 493.037 MPH flying mile
with an exit speed of 503.332 MPH. Team Vesco became the first wheel driven car to break the 500 MPH barrier.

Rick Vesco, builder and owner of the car, has established the goal for 2019 to be an OFFICIAL RECORD over 500 MPH. An official record requires two one mile runs with
an average speed over 500 MPH.

Pre-entry completed. Car number and entry confirmation received. Room booked at the Best Western Plus in Wendover.

Just need the salt to dry up and do the long drive.

I just noticed that SCTA has published the pre-entry list for SpeedWeek on their Facebook page.  It's 10 or more pages - I won't try to put it here now.  Maybe someone will send a link. . . 8-)

Thanks, Jim - except I'm supposed to go to bed now and just spent minute after minute getting quizzical looks from Nancy as I worked my way through the list "just to see who's going to be there", I told her.

Okay, I'll look at the rest of the pages later.  Thanks for the link.

Just found this quote from Third Century mystic Staanbak.  It might be apropos of Bonneville . . .

I sure hope so.  New laptop so the usual hassles of getting audio into it, but otherwise -- yep!

I'm at the 7 1/2 right now.  The salt is firm and knobby (1" balls, if you will) and still a tad moist out here, but firm and DRY to about the 5, at least.  Grand stuff -- and it's 89F an hazy sunny right now, so the salt oughta be cooking itself to a fine frenzy.

I'll post some pics soon.

Back at the motel to unload and letcha know what's going on out at the salt.  Here's what I saw today:

Geez, tourists -- mellow out a little.  You are NOT required to mark your visit.

Here are some pics showing the salt a few miles out.  It's pretty firm everywhere, but still a tad moist beyond the five or so.  In one pic you can see the markers for the lights at the end of the course -- I'm guessing that the location you see is at the six and those are just markers in case the course needs to be moved down a mile.  The others show the texture of the salt and so on.

Here's the course layout, sorta.  The long course 1 mile is about 250 yards off/to the right of Land's End, with the Start being a mile back from there, sorta.  The start is still a mile or so from where the course would intersect I-80.  The Village/pits are at about the 3 mile and the pits end about the 4.

Courses 3 & 4 (well, short and rookie/short/short, and we don't have a second long or combo course this year) start with #3 just around the bend in the dike - maybe only a few hundred yards from the corner.  The last course start line is a few hundred yards farther around the bend.  Yes, there's going to be the long tow from the end of the short courses around the start line and then back to pits/impound, but as of now the salt is way better than a few years ago - you probably won't shake your false teeth loose while driving the return roads.

The speed limit is 45, kids, remember that.  45 on the paved road to Land's End, and 45 on the salt unless posted lower.  Let's have a safe meet off the race track, too.  Oh, yeah - gas is about $2.959 ++ here.  So is diesel.

Anybody familiar with a new HP laptop?  I have one for streaming and it's Windows, of course, and I'm an Apple dude.  I'd sure like some help figuring out how to get the audio (from the mixer) into the 'puter so I can stream.  The HP websites and helpers are as useful as tits on a boar hog.  HELP!

I'll be busy with toilets for a while today, but if you can help - give me a shout.  906 361 6 two 82.  Thanks.
