2018 was the first year for the car I built on the salt as a B/Classic Gas Coupe . We had a great  time both on and off the track. now that I've seen what it's like to go fast out there I'm making some changes to the car to go a little faster, The car is a brick and the engine, which is a hopped up 429 CJ, can't quite over come it's frontal resistance.
I've made some changes to it that would make it a modified classic gas coupe and am in the process of building a 545 inch 460 which would put it in the AA engine class. all that I understand but I'd like to run Time only. Does that need to be on the side of the car like this 1045 AA/MCGC/TO or just marked time only on the entry forms?

Why do you want to run Time Only? 
Did you build a class legal car?

The car is evolving, I'm seeing what works and finding out a lot about what doesn't work. At this point I'm not so interested in chasing a record as just seeing what it can do. It may never be competitive but it sure is fun to play with.

What are the tech inspection requirements for a car to run "Time Only"?

I think the point Stainless was making is that it would be simpler to enter a class that you more or less fit in. Tech is for safety items. Being class legal is for record impound. So I believe it will be quicker and easier to just enter a class and run the car,

See what class it fit's, comply with class and engine size and run for a record,,,,,,admittedly coming up a bit short, most do.  No use running time only with a class compliant car.

As of now the car fits solidly in the modiied classic gas cupe class so that's what I'll do until the next round of modifications. Thanks for your input.

correct me if I'm wrong but the car was manufactured in 1966 which puts it in the classic category, it has an engine swap so gas coupe, and I have covered the headlights. Does that make it modified or altered? Or am I reading too much in to this? I've been reading pages 83 through 88 .

With headlights covered it is an Altered. From 1966 it MAY run in Classic but doesn't have to and there are some disqualifiers like non  OEM EFI. What Dan is pointing out is some confusion of CATEGORY vs CLASS.
